My boyfriend and I are interested in adopting a dog or puppy. But with so many different agencies out there, I was wondering if anyone has recommendations to ones they have used and loved!

Ive also heard that the Penticton poundkeeper is highly regarded and goes out of her way to adopt out unclaimed dogs. Maybe you could contact her as well?

Before you adopt your dog:

Do you already own your home, or are you prepared for finding it difficult to secure a rental for the next 10-15 years?

Do you have approx. $150/mo to care for this dog (incl food and a 'regular vet visits' fund)? and

Should it need emergency care, can you come up with $1000-$1500 in one day?

and...

Are you prepared to deal with around 275 pounds of poop every year? That's a 5lb bag-o-poo every week.

Too many people get all warm/fuzzy/eager to have that dog, but they underestimate the work that really goes into having one.

I haven't heard of Woofer Rescue before, I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendations!

We just spent $6000.00 on a knee operation for our dog. It can be pricey.

Ummmmmmmm, that's only 260 which is totally doable.

Whatwhat; not being a smarty here but take kgcayennes post seriously. Those are real numbers and real potential roadblocks.

Don't know your situation but there are so many sad stories of pets who have had to be surrendered for some of the reasons she posts.

Dogs are a forever commitment but so worth it.

It is interesting, cat litter (well at least by the frequency with which I change ours) comes in at 16.5 lbs a week, and that's just the clean litter, I'm guessing at least 3lbs per cat per week in waste!
