Penticton council - cell tower - Is this true?

Post by Thinktank »

At the regular meeting there will be discussion on the city and the Penticton Indian Band.....Other agenda highlights are a proposed cell tower at 127 Upper Bench Road S. and a brewery lounge being suggested at the new location of Cannery Brewing at 198 Ellis Street.

Is that true? Penticton city Council are going to decide where a cell tower goes?
Because I don't think Penticton City Council should be the ones deciding where cell towers go?

Wow.

What's this world coming to when city council can decide such things?

Well if it's going on City property or needs a City permit to build it who should decide? You, I don't think so!

Holy cow.

They will put a cell tower on Upper Bench Rd right beside other people like oil and gas industry
puts a gas well right beside farm families?

That's absurd.

Because I doubt city council have read anything about cell towers.
I doubt they know a damned thing about it.

You can't put a cell tower half mile from people's houses.

Why don't they put it out towards Naramata where no people live?

Ddan Ashton (mayor) lived in Trout Creek so he wanted a prison in Penticton.

Why don't city council put the cell tower in their own backyard, and earn extra money?

Will there be a way for residents to vote on this?

I'm sure the people of Naramata would love your characterization of them being "no people".

Naramata has lots of areas with no people.

Upper Bench Rd is right inside Penticton city limits. And it's loaded with people.

Is city council greedy? Or what?

Who says that they can't put it that close to people's homes? Not a good idea but it happens. What about the two big ones on Calgary Ave and Fairview/Hastings? Those two towers were actually not cel towers previously but rather micro wave links; the cel antennas were just put up later with no consultation as far as I know.

There is also one on Valleyview Road that just appeared last year; it overlooks the Sikh Temple area. Is in an orchard. Likely the land owner gets decent coin from the cel company for rent. The same may happen on Upper Bench Road if the neighbours don't protest.

Andre Martin, city councillor wondered if it might interfere with airplanes. I guess he doesn't know how tall 25 meters is. Its not all that tall. I believe the one on Calgary Ave is the same height.

I personally wouldn't want to live near one of these towers but money must be more important to the owner of the orchard than health concerns for him and his neighbours. Rather odd that they don't just locate it on the side or top of a local hill/mountain. Then the height of the tower could be minimal and almost invisible AND far away from residences.

I don't think that city council will benefit one bit from such a tower. The land owner is the one who will be filling his pocket book with lease payments.

Looking this map here http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/canc ... rs=a&pid=0

I would suspect it Rogers wanting a tower in that area since Telus already has some.

Bad news Thinktank checkout the map to see all of the towers across Canada

Bingo.

And it's the cell phone companies that are the greedy ones. They want to save money by putting
the tower right in people's back yards.

So - some people make money. Others get a tower in their backyard.

Try educating yourself on the range of cell towers and why they would want one in an area in the first place!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_site

Why would they put a cell tower where there are no or few people? Your thinking(tank) is flawed as usual.

It looks like the intent of this particular location is to cover a "dead zone" that would be behind Munson Mountain from their existing towers. I'm not communications expert but it makes sense to me that the limited range requirements would mean a relatively low powered installation. If that makes a difference.

I'll take "or what" for $500, Alex.
