Was this project included in the original budget?

Post by southy »

So I see where Mayor Jak has made another improvement announcement - I'm curious - does anyone know if this project was included in the original walkway budget? If it was - great.

I was wondering that as well.

Imagine that! A community enhancing waterfront for the use of all instead of selling it off to the highest bidder.

Congratulations to Penticton for further enhancing their waterfront.

I thought the idea was to continue the pathway down around the Sicamous. Don't recall them mentioning this new idea. (of course when has our city actually been transparent). Or...maybe with any luck, they have come to their senses and called off the dumb downsizing of the 100 and 200 blocks of Main Street and need to still spend that budget on something else. Anything would be better than wasting tax dollars on those two blocks.

It appears it was not. Check out page 16 here....

You will find reference to the "bookend" projects being this Peach/Rotary and Sicamous Project for 800k plus in this years budget. What that 800 plus k buys is very unclear but clear enough that we know this new work being done was not included in the walkway budget.

If you call up the plan details you might also note a very positive influence and amenity to a specific hotelier that benefits immensely from the pro cycle group.
