Rain closes sports fields

Does anyone else think this is pretty weak? I mean what if they closed fields on the coast every time it rained?
Thunder and lightning sure, but rain?
Weak.

Sports fields on the coast close if there is heavy rainfall - teams are advised to check out their local websites prior to attending if it's raining. Kelowna fields close as well.

I think it's more likely a drainage issue.

It's been pretty clear in past news releases that closures due to heavy rains are to protect players and turf.

I still think it's weak lol. It's barely rained with the exception of an hour or so last night.

The fields will be monitored and will reopen - never fear. Seems prudent to err on the side of caution with this particular weather system.

Today:Rain ending late this afternoon then cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon. Amount 10 mm except 20 mm near Osoyoos. Wind becoming north 20 km/h this afternoon. High 19.
Tonight:Cloudy. 60 percent chance of showers early this evening with risk of a thunderstorm. Wind north 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Low 13.

Been raining pretty steady in Kelowna.

Dillworth Mountain has had 39 mm today. Downtown Kelowna has had over 20 mm. That's a lot of rain, and worthy of a field closure. Even Osoyoos has had 26 mm today.

I don't think Penticton has had anywhere close to that but I'm not a meteorologist.

I'm not either, but Google is my friend. YYF (Penticton) has had 23.6 mm of precipitation over the past 24 hours.

By comparison, Osoyoos has had 28.9 mm, Summerland 19.6 mm, 18.1 mm in Kelowna (YLW), 17.2 mm in Vernon, 9.7 mm in Kamloops (YKA), and 6.6 mm in Vancouver (YVR).
