Police state? Really? As long as you are not doing anything wrong I wouldn't be worried. If they are watching e-mails and Internet traffic to stop child porn rings and terrorism, good. If fact many of the bad police are being weeded out now because there are cameras everywhere. The Robert DziekaƄski aiport beating, Geoff Mantler kicking the guy in the face in Kelowna etc were all caught on camera. There was an RCMP fired in Richmond for using Police Resources to get a couple women's phone numbers and he was fired because they could bring up his texting history.

Mantler and crew got me one night on my birthday. My legs were purple swollen up huge after they had done their job. I had to go back to work on a drilling rig. Could barely walk. Lucky i didnt get fired. No i had not done much to deserve ant police attention never mind a dirty beat down from 3 or 4 cops.

It is entirely irrelevant for what or who called the police. An in-custody beating by the police is a most egregious crime. Perhaps just another example why defence lawyers openly say that the RCMP are Canada's biggest gang who call themselves "The Queens Cowboys".

Instead of heading back to work he should have went straight to a good lawyer and sued their *bleep* - after a couple of years he would never have to go back to work again! This happens all the time but the government is very cautious to ensure the claims are settled before hitting the courts complete with gag orders so the public are never told what these claims are costing them.

I was a passenger in a vehicle. After an hr of being on the side of the road in the truck stopped by police in front of my home. I got out of the truck. I was instantly attacked. They were not able to get cuffs on me . So the took the boots to me.

Lesson learned. Ask to exit the vehicle . I didnt even know there was a cop there on the passenger side.
Found out when he attacked

It now looks like Vernon will be hiring five more police officers in the coming year to help with the problems we are experiencing.

Appears the writer has had conversations that point to the methadone clinic as the problem.

Well it appears to be official Vernon. You are going to be paying 5% for those six new cops. I love how the head of hiring says it's going to make things safer. Really? Show me the proof for more cops means it's safer for people. More like 6 more cops to do paperwork and generate Revenue. They say that crime is constantly going up. Well if they still have the same amount of cops that would indicate the cops aren't doing anything to make anybody safer. So now you're on the hook for a 5% tax increase to pay for more Revenue generators. That's all they seem to be there for. And I'm not dissing police in anyway. It would be a terrible world without them don't get me wrong. But more police doesn't guarantee anything is safer. Pretty sure the bad guys have figured out not to do anything in the presence of cops or where the police will be

Cops aren't doing enough? Have you read anything in the news of late? Cops are at staffing levels that reflect a much smaller community and the crime rate has increased. This clearly means the work each offer does has gone up. Why not go down to the Vernon detachment and ask what the amount of work per member has done over the past 5 years? Get your proper statistics before ranting about the cops. Clearly the VAST majority of Vernon supports this. Have you looked outside your window and seen what is going on in Vernon?

adding more police might give a warm fuzzy feeling to some but is that the real answer ? The system is upside down. These people are not afraid & have a complete disregard of everything because nothing is going to happen to them & they know it.
We should be asking those who actually respond for suggestions, their answers might be far different from what is being done now ?

Sometimes, it is possible to avoid aggravation, anxiety and worry by simply educating one's self on the topic of concern. In this case finding out what the cost is to pay for and support a police officer in a community. What are the included costs that go into funding a position. Seldom will one get the necessary and accurate information by posting on a forum.

common_sense_guy wrote:Just read 1.1 million dollars for six new police. That works out to over 180,000 per officer. Does anybody else have trouble with that math.

No! Not at all. We need more police officers on the beat...period. So instead of shooting your mouth off about anyone else having trouble with that...take the time to do the research "with that math" and provide us with the details surrounding the actual cost break down surrounding the hiring of the six new police officers.

A few questions, were you asked by the Police to get out of the vehicle?
Why could they not hand cuff you?
Did you end up being charged?

It's interesting you at the least realize you should not have gotten out.

There's always a reason - I suspect you didn't listen to directions.

You story reminds me of a JOKE.

Two dudes pulled over and the officer approaches the vehicle. Driver continues to laugh and joke with his passenger. He does not roll his window down and does not present his drivers.

Finally after being ordered he opens window had to be told to present immediately his drivers and registration to the officer. Once he does officer punches him a good one in the nose. Driver very whiny asks while holding his nose, why did you do that? Officer, next time you will open you window, present you driver and registration without being ask, this if no joking matter.

Officer returns license and walks to other side of car passenger has rolled window down and is paying attention. Office punches him one good one right on the mouth. Passenger is holding lips and in a real whiny voice, asks why did you do that to me.

Officer says, because I know what you would have said five miles down the road, "Wish he would have tried that with me!"

I do hope you learned truly, never present or try to your case on the street. In hindsight, if you would have sat and kept you mouth shut and minded your own, the nice Police man would have sent you on your way even if youer buudy was a goof.
