Bridge / lights to nowhere

I did see the classic today - some white Ford van turned left onto the Channel Parkway off Green on the red light. I was right behind him, the light turned green and not one car had to stop on the Channel Parkway. The lights are really fast.

And now we are going to give them 10% of Casino funds in perpetuity to "help them pay for service connections to this bridge".

Why was this sweet deal not discussed in public during council meetings? Instead, Jakbite drops the bomb after the ink is already dry and then try's to sell us what a great deal it is!!
We simply cannot afford another three years of this council making multi million dollar deals behind closed doors. Whether you agree or not with deals such as this or the Trio deal is moot. Matters of such financial significance should include feedback from the electorate before they are agreed to not announced to the public after the fact. This council is behaving like an absolute dictatorship.
We get public involvement on such things as sidewalks on Lakeshore and downtown beautification. There was public discussion on supplying W Bench with water. We have public hearing for things as simple as zoning variances where notice is published for all who may wish to speak toward may do so. Yet deals that are literally worth many many millions of dollars do not reach the public until after the fact.
We have a very serious problem here folks. We are nearing the point of Breach of Trust of Public Officials.

Hey twobits, I saw Muriel Franks' obit in the paper the other day. Maybe you can claim her seat in the council chambers? :)

What is peculiar about all these deals is that they seem very one sided. Funding is given based on some vague promise of future as yet unseen or unmeasurable benefits to the entire community with no specific commitments or details as to when exactly those benefits will start to flow from the party receiving the funds.

What contracts are underway or have been signed for development on other side of bridge that was also largely publicly funded. There has been little said of late. An now the casino profit give away for some yet unforeseen benefits. Sorry but don't partnerships involve some give and take by all parties to the partnership? To date, it seems more one side giving and waiting, the other taking. Sounds more like politics than good business on city's part.

Do you think the PIB is going to cancel the archeological survey of the Skaha park waterslide property?

Last week I took my mtn bike out the channelway to the bridge and was shocked to see absolutely nothing was happening on the other side, at the end of the bridge is dirt ! no sidewalks no roadways, nothing, I'm surprised they didn't have at least one project ready to go after the bridge was in, is there any word on when something is going to start happening ?

Not sure why you find that shocking. They won't start anything until they have an anchor tenant, and they haven't secured anyone yet. I agree, I think the infrastructure should have been started long ago so that it shows the intent of having SOMETHING over there. On the upside, I do see a lot of people who use the walking trail along the channel use the bridge to get back and forth. Mind you, that could have been accomplished much cheaper with a man bridge.

What "anchor tenant" wouldn't want to lease from PIB right next to an airport and highway.

The prison that was built in Osoyoos could have gone there maybe , other than that I would be as surprised as you as to what it could be!

This town is running rampant with construction right now. It's only a matter of time.
