So, what exactly are the measurables that would make anyone a worthwhile elected official?
What have any of you asked Richard to do? How many of you have actually called him to find out if he's doing it? How many of you are actively holding him accountable? Who here is just insinuating that he's not doing his job? Who asked Richard Canning to keep them safe from terrorists?
More Canadians get killed by deer every year than they do terrorists. Why should Richard, or anyone else in the South Okanagan worry about terrorists? Do you have family that lives, works or travels abroad? Then be concerned for their safety, not be worried about terrorists. Do you think IS is coming to OK Falls to launch an attack at the IGA? The South Okanagan Region should be worried about water, infrastructure and the economy.
What have any of you asked Andrew J. to do? How many of you are calling him? What about Chief Kruger? Did you call Ec. Dev. about Skaha Hills or the bridge to find out what's going on? What about Justin Trudeau? How many calls have you made? How many letters have you written?
It's so easy to point fingers and pick on people, any of the "Debbie downers" in these forums have anything to suggest to actually be constructive? Who has the balls to call and find out information for themselves? Some base their knowledge on what they heard at 7-11 or wait for the press release. The cowardice is palpable.
So many on here complain about PIB, City Council, Federal and Provincial governments, RCMP, local business practices and then follow it up with personal insults. This isn't really a forum this is a ridiculous example of people who don't want solutions so they'll have more to complain about.

These are all good points Dawnland, but it's not like this forum doesn't have it merits. Frankly, I'm not surprised to learn that someone has their eye on old dick in Penticton. However, I am surprised to learn that I can savor the irony in silence.

I found the forums helpful during the forest fires.
Other than that, nothing.

Good one! That is a hall of fame post. There should however been some reference to a valid ED prescription.

Geez, how about being a member of the elected party or at least an MLA in the opposition instead of a birdwatcher from Naramata that's a newbie with a third place party.
There is no point in asking the very nice guy Richard for anything. The only face time he will get will be with the guy that supplies hand towels in the Parliament washrooms.

Edit to add- If anyone in this new riding wants to promote anything or get an answer to anything, there best course of action would be to contact Dan Albas not Richard Canning.

There may be a chance of putting him to work. Heard that riding reps will have to present to parliament any petitions they receive with 500 or more signatures. Once this is in place, any big issues under federal jurisdiction that enough people in the riding want heard in parliament can be passed on that way to make sure their opinion is heard. We'll have to watch for it.

It seems that many use this forum as a way of venting about things they as individuals feel powerless about or have a personal axe to grind, often becoming just diatribes spewing hate, frustration and misinformation when it could be used to provide a bit more thoughtful and substantive perspectives to a dialogue.

In this case, Mr. Canning could help his constituents by representing their interests as best as he can but also by answering questions that can bring additional insight on specific issues, policies, legislation and activities inside Ottawa. He could also invite such questions and respond to them using social media.

At this time his facebook is largely a PR exercise of photos and public events we can get from any media outlet and serves little added value.

Your thoughts are noble but unfortunately altruistic. The unfortunate but harsh reality is that Mr. Canning will never be able to help his constituents interests as best he can, he cannot answer questions to bring additional insight to the actual mandated Govt's policies, legislation, or activities inside Ottawa because of the simple fact and reality that he is an orphan MP within a party that has third place standing in the House of Commons and does not have any inside connection. In case you are not aware, that third place position gives their party a severe limitation on time spent in debate. Do you actually think that Mulclair will give up any of the few precious minutes he is allowed for face time to allow the birdwatcher environmentalist from the metropolis of Naramata Mr Canning to speak for our riding?

Static knows full well who Richard Cannings is. I can hear his snickering from here. But honestly, if you're going to call a guy out, at least get his name right.

Not necessarily. Perhaps he lives in Vernon (thats the problem with having the south lumped in with the North end on this forum) and doesn't honestly know. I could not tell you who represents Vernon, Federally.

Lol, Static is perfectly aware of who Canning is and what riding he represents. He simply posed a rhetorical question, and one that will no doubt be asked many times in Ottawa over the next four years every time he tries to make a statement.
We have a lame duck MP in our riding. Get used to be ignored.
