Donations for Fort McMurray evacuees

Post by barefoot_buckwild »

Are there any local businesses that are accepting donations (monetary, clothing, food ect.) on behalf of the fire evacuees? There's several businesses in Kelowna/Vernon that are organizing donations that will be sent up to the Fort McMurray area in the next couple weeks to help those who lost everything to the fire.

Its best to support directly to those sanctioned to help. The Edmonton Emergency Relief Services is coordinating efforts in Edmonton and no doubt are communicating with the northern camps where the rest of the evacuees are staying.

BC Liquor Stores are easily accessible and have supported causes like this in the past.

Show your support by making a donation of $2 or $5 – or multiples thereof at any BC Liquor Store in the province. Donations will help the Red Cross provide Fort McMurray with necessary emergency relief and assistance to recover from the effects of the wildfires. Every dollar counts

Donate to the Red Cross and your donation will double via the federal government.

Both the federal government and Alberta provincial government are matching donations to the Red Cross. $11 million donated as of this afternoon - awesome.

Donations have been making there way up to the camps where many people have been housed for the last couple of days. We are in the process of evacuating everyone via air to Edmonton and Calgary and I can assure you all those donations have been going with the evacuees.

Just curious as I donated to BC Liquor Store and Superstore doing the same thing - do those donations that go to Red Cross get doubled up as well? I didn't know who to ask.
