Development Director Dismissed
Not the first senior manager hired or contracted by City to leave or be dismissed . this one allegedly because he 'was not right fit' - typically translates to not seeing eye to eye with council or staff issues. Got to wonder.....
Is recruitment, selection and vetting process for hires in senior positions lacking something in the process?
Are roles and responsibilities of jobs being accurately represented by City to recruits?
Is there too much interference by council?
Are new hires taking the fall for City Council decisions that go sideways?
Too frequent turnover of senior staff is often an indication of something not working in culture and process of employer.

Could be lots of things. In the past that's the sort of wording that's used when someone is just a jerk who can't get along with those around him. But you're right, the people doing the hiring should certainly be looking a little further than a resume.

A google search shows an article in the Herald but the link takes you to a 404 message.

Interesting. The phone number is for the Vancouver office of a multi-national corporate head-hunter business. I wonder if this is the same group that found them the departing development director ? I hope they have a favourable return policy.

Yet the ad doesn't appear on Boyden's web site.

Easier said than done fluff. As an employer, and many other employers can attest to, one has to tread very carefully when answering reference calls about past employee's. Privacy rights have become so crazy that you can be sued in a heartbeat. I know of several local instances where people that were terminated set up fake reference calls and recorded them to successfully sue their former employer.
My standard response now for employees that were terminated is confirm employment and period. All other questions are "no comment". Try saying something like they were canned for making lewd comments to female employees or theft and without formal charges being laid against them, you could find yourself in court for defamation of character. The same goes for tenancy references.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Or something benign like "not a good fit"? :)

Lets check and see if HR are the ones causing this problem as they are the common link that could be causing problems as I've worked in places that this is the case and they hide behind excuses the same as what we have been hearing ,lets go council time to look deeper you have a problem.
