You are right, not many care. There are injustices that should be corrected but in order for people to start to care about the issues some serious internal housekeeping needs to be shown to be happening by FN leadership across the country. Sympathy is easily lost when literally billions of dollars expended results in leadership patronage with fat salaries, council's of a dozen or more making 100k/yr for a population the size of Ollala, purchasing condo's in Toronto with tax dollars, building ice rinks while sewer and water are not available........

No credibility is the bottom line. People have become deaf to the issue because the aid offered is going to a select few instead of the general membership.

Agree with that twobits. A select few have become adept at playing the victim card for personal profit while the real victims go unheard.

Seriously? Pick just about any remote community where band members live in squalor and teen suicide runs rampant. I'm not saying all tribal governments are corrupt but certainly enough of them that anyone who listens to the news has grown more than a little cynical when someone starts beating the oppression drum again.

Judgement based on fact is not an assumption.

Great deflection to nothing. Here is but one example of too many. Do you wonder why no one listens anymore????
Really no surprise they say no to every resource project in the Province......they don't need work.

The chief of an 80-member First Nation in British Columbia received nearly $1-million in pay last year thanks to an $800,000 bonus for his work as economic development officer, according to salary disclosures that are being released for the first time this week.

Chief Ron Giesbrecht of the Kwikwetlem First Nation is listed as receiving $914,219 in remuneration last year, plus an additional $16,574 in expense reimbursement. Individuals with Indian status who work on a reserve are not required to pay income tax, meaning such pay would be comparable to a taxable income of more than $1.6-million off reserve.

It's interesting to think of this complaint against Canada 150 in a North American context.

Holy smokes is this conversation really starting again....its 2017 for goodness sakes Get over it.

The whole FN vs everyone else argument is getting old. There's work to be done and lets do it instead of arguing.

Our country is better because of FN.

Of course our country is better because of FN heritage and culture. And yes, they deserved and deserve some better acknowledgment of that. But please don't ignore the reality of the FN's own internal issues of disbursement of tax dollar aid that in too many cases does not help the general membership. In far too many instances the band leadership is as corrupt with the use of those funds as fake charity groups. Further to that, the general public see's this stuff happening and are not stupid. Sympathetic, but not stupid. There is a limit and when the funds are wasted on gross salaries and ice rinks when sewer, water, and housing are lacking, we have to question, legitimately, why more?
And when we do ask "why more" after all of the evidence of abuse of funds, you pull the "it's 2017 for goodness sakes race card" and think the discussion should end right there. Sorry but labeling some of us as stuck in the past racists is not going to stop the questions on some accountability of funding use.
And quite frankly, this rethink 150 effort, I personally think, is counter productive and will ultimately just backfire as just another convenient opportunity to stage another protest which people have grown tired of and just dismiss.
