Sounds like you have an inside scoop. Begs the question of why after the election and not now?

I would be surprised if anyone on the council had influence over the crown to withhold the announcement but I suppose it is possible.

That being said, depending on who ends up being charged, it could be someone that members of the council have given money for other projects with minimal guarantees that it would or could be paid back and that might raise questions. If not about where the money went to, certainly as to the judgment of some council members.

No one on Council has that kind of pull. The RCMP recommend charges to Crown. I have a big problem with Crown Prosecutors withholding charges so as to not affect the outcome of a Civic election. The post stating that charges will be announced post election.....which suggests it is being withheld to avoid affecting the election....is BS and just supposition.
And if it does actually happen and a Candidate is involved......we have a much bigger malfeasance problems in Peach City.

Well... the election is over.

I wonder if we will hear anything new on this investigation soon?

Why be surprised at the time required to announce charges. Only took more than a yr for someone to figure out that Elk were poached, shot in a residential neighborhood, and illegal possession of wildlife.
If it took that long for charges for that offense (and 10 yrs of Constitution argument) to follow, why would anyone be surprised at our judicial system?

Let's give it a little more time shall we? The Mayor and Council were only sworn in as of tonight.

I doubt that a change in council will have any effect on the investigation. Its with the Crown, hopefully they finish up soon.

No they won't but the Crown and RCMP will spend a million to get a judgment for a 100k they will never collect because the funds are long gone.
Surrey, the largest Municipality in the Province, is dumping the RCMP. Maybe the Okanagan Valley in conjunction with the involved RD's could do the same? The OKPD would be sweet. Some direct accountability to the local people paying the wages instead of some striped white shirt in Ottawa telling us what they need for budget for their inflated ego's.

A question worthy of a separate thread. See "Okanagan Police Force".

So I wonder just how much more … mulling the Crown must do to bring charges forward. This has been mulled over for a very long time. Just sayin'. One would think the DPA membership would like to know what happened to that money!

Last story: https://www.castanet.net/news/Penticton ... g-DPA-file

Small edit: Sorry folks if I got some of you excited with the possibility of charges. Just seems to be a hec of a long time to mull.

No need to apologize Southy. We have all unfortunately become immune to how slow the wheels of justice turn and the price tag that comes with it.

3+ years since the irregularities occurred.

Do you think this is the year we see this case move forward? Maybe get resolved?

Or has it been forgotten altogether? I sure hope the DPA is still pushing for answers.

There are a few rumours out there and I think if there is even a bit of truth to some of these, this could be a lot bigger than most people think. I'm sure it will move forward but seems to be somewhat complicated. Lets hope they get to the bottom of this soon.
