Casino Booming Headline Timing.

It seems quite inflammatory to post the headline "Casino revenues boom" while negotiations are taking place. I am sure it's also just a coincidence that this story is posted just before mediation. It makes me wonder if Castanet has a union?

Unions need to be outlawed

Actually they don't. They do provide a second opinion on workplace wages and conditions that should be transparent. Instead of outlawing unions, the executive and their support staff should be legislated to be on "strike" and receive the same pay as the membership that pays their wages.

Perhaps if EVERYONE stayed away from the casino, it would help to settle the strike quicker.

Quite obviously you are staunch NDP/Union. Over the years I have taken note that most of the people like yourself....not all....have somehow become so jaded that they have lost touch with reality and just become very bitter souls that just want to strike out at anyone and everything that has a better standard of life than themselves. They attack Corporations without realizing that many receive paychecks from those evil entities.
The further hypocrisy to your minimal reasoning is that you...you yourself....are a shareholder. Just ask your union reps what your pension fund is invested in you dummy.

union benefits go back into the immediate economy. whereas ceo and sharholder and corporate shareholdings end up in mysterious panama papers and offshore untaxed. and dont benefit the country unless there are favorable conditions for themselves. which usually means paying little to no taxes and siphoning even more taxpayer monies to subsidize corporate agendas. you only have to look at how angry obama was when much of the bailout monies went to bonuses for abject failures.

I am sure they are thrilled with having to put in 4 hour shifts as a sign-holder daily for next to nothing.

I actually know someone who is in management and is hoping the strike goes on forever. She is making as much money from tips as she does from her salary and she already makes more than hourly paid employee's. For the math challenged.....her wage has been doubled but the union conveniently does not disclose this side income. Go figger.
Maybe a forensic audit of tips claimed to CRS might get the BCGEU back to the table????

if the innuendo is that some people who are on strike have a different view of being on strike in the union - then they - like you - have missed the whole point of what the union is for. and why there is a strike - which has been explained adnauseum. those union members are in a democratic system - and had a vote for whether or not to strike. so its not like those who dont agree in a union were hard done by. there was a ton of warning and a process to make sure they prepared for that possibility. no one held a gun to a possible union employees head to get a job where a union is the reality. before you apply you know that is what you sign up for. again - no one held a gun to their head when they signed the papers explaining in great detail what the union obligations would be. but in that package they would have also had an indication of all their benefits as a union member that most other jobs dont have neither. when there is a right wing climate (where there is union oppression and busting) there can be a claim that no one forces people to take a non union job out of necessity. which is true as well. so where does the right wing peanut gallery get off throwing shells about union stuff? they dont have to explain why they pay minimum wage - just because. they just do it.

Do you know how much of the casino's profits go to healthcare and communities in BC?
Total revenues from commercial gambling in B.C. were $2.9 billion in 2014/15, excluding horse racing. After expenses, including prize payouts, total government revenues from gambling were about $1.25 billion. This revenue benefits the people and communities across B.C.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/spor ... money-goes

How much money has the BCGEU contributed to the provincial coffers , not just to a certain political party for favors, but to healthcare and other community organizations?

If owning/operating a business is so profitable why don't the unions start/run their own businesses? The union would make huge $$$ from all the enormous profits companies obviously make and their workers would make huge $$$ for themselves and their families as well as contribute mass amounts to the union through dues. There would be far more union members as far more companies would have organized labor forces. Would be a win win for union employees and the unions who represent them.

And they were also told if they didn't sign up with the union the couldn't have the job. Sign up or no job here for you.
How's that not a form of gun to their head?
