According to the boundaries map on the RDOS website, the property has fire protection so thats not going to be an issue for insurance.

You have no proof or evidence to support your inflammatory accusations or opinion.

WOW......drama queen.....or what ?

and you have no proof to disprove his or her theory.

The burden of proof is upon the one making the claim.

The legal burden of proof (Latin: onus probandi) is the obligation of a party in a trial to produce the evidence that will prove the claims they have made against the other party. In a legal dispute, one party is initially presumed to be correct and gets the benefit of the doubt, while the other side bears the burden of proof.

But it could possibly affect the price the owner would have to pay.

That is for sure. The price will also be determined by such factors as how far is the nearest hydrant and whether or not it is a full-time fire hall or a volunteer department.

This home has been pulled from the Airbnb Site as well as their own web page, but they are still listed on the Okanagan Vacation Home rental site for $1,500 a night...hum

Excuse me, you call this Good Neighbour? I don’t see Good Neighbour here I see jealousy. Not all property owners are like this, there is always another side of the story.

I am one of the property owner who received a ticket charge for an in-law suite basement that was built long before I bought the property, the city claimed the basement suite was built without a building permit so the city force me to pay the building permit and to sign the building permit agreement. It a big pile of mess that should be corrected in a non abusive actions.

Oh and figure this threatening letter sent by the city to me: “A Building Bylaw No.2018-01 recently adopted and is in affected as of November 1/2018 with the fine of $450.00 per day” So as for me it would be like this: $450.00 penalty per day x infinity = loss my property to the city. Would this be what the city want from property owners? Must be who knows.

Illegal basement suite huh? Did you ask any questions or did your realtor? Vendor disclosure statements have been required for at least two decades now. Home inspection lol?
Is the suite built to code? Do you even know what the code is? Ie- do all bedroom windows meet min sq ft area escape requirements in case of fire or flood? Are you paying home insurance that includes disclosing a part of the home is rental?
And all of this aside, as there are hundreds of illegal suites just like yours, just how did the City find out about you? How did you get on their radar if not for noise, parking, or some other issue that has caused a complaint driven only bylaw department to sent you a letter? You pizzed someone off jingle. Either a tenant or a neighbor.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Oh please explain what is this code you are talking about?
Explain to me how my basement suite be built to code and why?

Asking question is where you get the answers to straight up with laws and rules not to be bullied and be abused.

Are you looking to take someone's property or flipping properties?

You are listing up a long list here and talking about fire, flood and then insurance. What do you know about my property? You are pizzed so you must know things about my property that I don’t know so please put up a list. My house and basement suite maybe safer than your house if you own a house, twobits.

Jingle,

Twobits was asking questions about a handful of things that make a basement suite legal, if you dont meet all the requirements, even if you feel your suite is the best, it really doesn't matter. The city and Province set standards that are suppose to be met, if they are not then the require you to make them right.

Yes, and twobits was correct. There are regulations regarding basement suites to ensure that they are safe; its not a money grab by the city. Things like inter-connected smoke alarms between floors, two exits, windows large enough..they are in the rules to ensure safety; nothing else.

I would not want to be a homeowner with an illegal suite if there was a fire and my tenant died. If nothing else, the insurance company must know about these suites; otherwise coverage is questionable.

Jingle, I hope the City fines your butt out of the rental market cuz if ya can't supply close enough to code that got you on the City's radar, you are a slumlord.
