For a change I'm totally on board with the police's reaction to open the park to stop the calls.. I'm getting so sick and tired of the people that complain about the little things in life
If you can't handle the truth, plug your ears. Don't ask me to stop speaking. This is a no snowflake Zone

What if the reason the park was closed was for safety issues and a kid was hurt? It wasn't but if one had been hurt would you all be complaining that no one did anything to stop them?

It says right in the article that it's okay to use it... it's the landscaping that isn't finished. I seriously can't believe someone would call 911 on kids outside playing.... so much better than glued to a device.

The kids that use the park - no matter where the park is - are well aware of the hazards.

I can just hear some old curmudgeon outside on his patio, “hey you kids - get out of that playground!”

Better yet, imagine the 911 operator that fielded those calls:

“911 - what is your emergency?”
“Hello, police yes - you need to send some officers right away - there’s a bunch of kids playing on their skateboards at the new skateboard park - there’s like 20 of them!”

Actually the article stated:
There is quite a bit of work to be done, but it's not going to hurt the surface. They’ll have to shut down for a small period of time to do the finishing on it...
I take that to mean there is still work to be done on it (the surface) but the kids playing on it now won't damage it.

Yes, I almost dropped when I read this. Those people who called probably had their kids outdoors all day, in ditches, on the farm, in the woods and playing on the street. NO one disparagingly referred to them as "free range kids" or to the parents as moronic idiots letting their kids run amok.

What the :cuss: if kids can't sneak onto a playground meant for them and not get a 9 1 1 called in on them?

Seriously, those people sound like they are *bleep* a playground got put in.

Except it wasn't and that had been published before... so we knew that already.

I am waiting for the same people who called 911 over this to start calling again when the kids are there when dusk falls. I saw a older couple walking by the park telling the kids to pack it up about 6:30ish and threatening to call the police if they were still there when the sun went down. I hope the police start fining them for wasting their time.

OK, I get it the calls were over the top but to play devil's advocate.

They were kids breaking into a gated off construction site. If you witnessed some kids breaking into a construction site, would you potentially wonder if they're there to steal tools or vandalize equipment?

You ASSUME that some old codger is looking out the window seeing 20 kids happily playing in a skate park and decided to call 911. More likely what led up to the call was seeing a handful kids hoping the fence to access a locked construction site.
