Way to go Hannah! By saying there was a micommunication is someone not taking reponsibility for their actions. That's a great example for the students of what not to do!!

This shows how idiotic the School and School Board is. It never should have been an issue in the first place.

WTH is the problem its medical service dog, getting on stage in-front of a large crowd is when this student needs her medical service animal.

Why on earth was the school suddenly surprised by this? Idiots. Instead of saying "Oh *bleep*, I'm sorry to have completely forgotten; let me get this figured out.", they tried to blame her? Highschool drama doesn't stop at students.

So a blind student would have the same thing happen.

Medical service animal is aloud everywhere except at high school graduation ceremony. i.e government building, hospitals, police stations & transit bus

It may come as a surprise to you folks that know everything, that there are some that do not. Try to get over yourselves and realise that.

Hey there!

The reason I wanted to share this story is to raise awareness for people with invisible disabilities and the rights of medical service dogs. The truth is they are allowed to go anywhere any regular person is allowed to! This includes police stations, hospitals, restaurants, etc. The only place they are not permitted to go is anywhere I myself wouldn’t be permitted to go i.e ICU without permission, etc. The majority of staff at Pen High have been amazing and exceptionally supportive, all I want is for it to be easier for other students who may succeed me. Where the frustration comes from is the fact that this isn’t the first time we’ve had a run in with the school board not understanding disability rights and the rights of medical service dogs and their handlers.

If you have any questions feel free to ask! I am here to educate and raise awareness!

Good work. One would think school employees would be a little more enlightened, but they are now. Good luck with everything.

I’m confused. Is the dog certified with the province? I thought only registered service dogs have full access rights?

If it’s a registered service dog, the school could be in big trouble legally for trying to deny access. If it’s not a registered service dog, hmmmm.

Yes she is a fully certified and registered service dog! Technically we could file a human rights complaint and take it to court, yes.

Oh wow, that’s crazy that the school would even question you. Hopefully they’ve learned from this!

Can I ask where you got your dog trained? I thought PADS only uses Labrador retrievers.

Was it expensive? My friend has a special needs child and a service dog would really help them.

Good luck in your future!
