Sewer rates

Sewer rates

I understand the city has to find ways to pay for repairs and upgrades to the sewer system. I have a house that is zoned commercial so I pay for water by the meter, but the City now also bases my sewer charges by how much water I use (they used to have an annual charge that showed on the taxes, in 2016 it cost me $153.38). based on the assumption that the water I use is put into the sewer. However, I have a yard with gardens and lawns that need water.

My utility bill shows the basic charge, usually around $15 per month, roughly $180 per year, and a variable rate (by water usage) which from October to April is $3 to $4 per month. From May to September, when I am watering (and I have reduced the amount of watering I do), it is $40 to $50 per month ($200 to 250 per year). Pretty big increase and now going higher. Now you know why so many lawns will be turning very brown.
