At Antler's Beach Regional Park the debris was filled with nails. Wave action had brought up old glass and metal objects. The undercuts are horrendous, and wood debris is everywhere.

And it's not the closed one!

I too can remember stepping on nails....kinda stops you in your tracks...
First you have to pull your foot off the nail..then you have to with both hands...pull off your thong...aka beach sandal.... Oh yeah, them were the days...

We've all been lucky enough to free range and not have heli parents.

I suspect the City is covering there butt, few years ago a person (if memory serve me correctly) from Kamloops was in Penticton tripped over tree root in a park.
Decided to sue the city, not sure how that turned out.

My point is by closing those parks & placing a $500 fine, anyone that goes into a closed park & injuries themselves. Would not be able to sue city, hence city is covering there butt.

So this applies only to those posted regional parks according to the Castanet story in the link. Is there any such policy within the city? I see at some places such as Strathcona and Kinsmen there are small placards staked to the remaining small area of lawn saying beach area closed. Ventured out there yesterday myself. Lovely smell that I can only imagine what it will be like as the waters eventually start to recede. Parks along the lakefront may be the last place one will want to be on a nice 37C afternoon in July with a nice level of humidity to top the experience off.
