That area is pretty heavily used by people involved in various recreational activities. Lots of ATV and dirt bike traffic use the open area at McDougall Road as a jumping off point. Realistically, it was only a matter of time before a fire got started in that area. Although the cause of this fire will be a mystery for quite awhile, there is little to no doubt that it was human caused. Perhaps accidental as in the case of ignition by a poorly maintained exhaust system on an ATV.. or perhaps by carelessness. At any rate, hopefully they get it out before it becomes a major wildfire. A lot of heavy bush between the area of the fire start, through Darke Lake Provincial Park.

Isn't there a ban on such activity at present?

Not sure if it is banned everywhere, or is banned in some parks while being discouraged in other places. There was a news story about some citizens [Grannies] manning a bit of a blockade to discourage people from operating ATV's, etc at some location in the interior, so I am assuming the ban is not province wide.
