It's official, get the :cuss: ll out of the festival grounds and go home. If your route is not cut off that is.

Shambhala Music Festival is now under an official evacuation alert, as the McCormick Creek wildfire continues to grow rapidly while "behaving unpredictably."

The wildfire has grown to 250 hectares in size, from 160 Friday night, and has jumped north over the Salmo River towards the festival. It's also travelled east, prompting the evacuation of the Nelway area.

A full list of the the roads under the evacuation order can be found here.

The blaze has also forced the closure of the Nelway border crossing, closing Highway 6 between the U.S. border and the junction with Highway 3.

The Kootenays have had MORE fires than the Cariboo this year! Also, 15 of the 21 new fires in BC are in the Southeast (Kootenays).

The White River Fire fire is now the 4th largest in BC this year at 25,640 hectares. That's by far the largest fire the Kootenays have seen in modern times.

Snow is being predicted in the higher elevations. Maybe this is exactly what is needed up there.

The fires are doing very little in the Kootenays right now because of the rain and snow they had last week. The only fire that has some growth is the on in the southeast corner, and it's nothing compared to what it was doing a week ago. Nice to see the smoke gone today.

Tomorrow is forecast to be a record low for this time of year in terms of daily maximum temperatures. Even the coast is only supposed to hit 13C. The cooler than average weather is supposed to stick around for quite some time.
