As well, the fire department has asked for help from a BC Forest Service crew.

Reports from JR folks coming up from town say it looks like it started right by the road a bit past Gallagher Road on the

left near Brentwood.

Apparently, it's burning very fast. There are few houses right in the area too.

Started on the side of the road you say. It leaves me wonder what the possible causes of this fire might be. dot dot dot

being that its at the bottom of a hill that's long and steep I'm thinking hot brakes from a vehicle

Apparently Fire Crews jumped on it right away and it's under control. Traffic is now moving along one side of the Hwy.

There are houses/structures pretty close by...a close call.

From folks that are posting on social media it looks like it started right by the side of the road.

Brake check pull out area is above where the fire started.

Thank you Fire Fighters!!!!

I'm well aware of where the brake check is I don't think some of you are aware of the materials that braking systems in cars and trucks are made from and the temps they operate at not all fires are a result of cigarette butts

that grass needed to burn anyway, now it won't be a problem

well ya the major fires will be significantly more detrimental to ones health. Not that this would stop the major fires but it would reduce them in interface areas. I do think we are at the point of needing to do this type of work. Especially with a wet spring the grasses seem much taller this year.

I thought the same thing about Wilden when they had the open house two weekends ago. So much tall dead grass on the side of a hill. the properties are small one would just need to toss a butt and there she goes.

ETA: the prevention is probably cheaper in the long run too

brakes and cigarettes were both very plausible possibilities in this case.

News reports are suggesting cigarette butt.

Who knows at this point...I'm just glad it's out.

by just popping in
I hope whoever tossed that butt is feeling some guilt. In a perfect world they would own up to their stupidity and pay the fine and all costs.
