Many of these fire burning in the province will be smoldering this winter with two feet of snow on them..

Evacuation alert area changes

Philpott Road Fire

With progress made on the wildfire at 30% containment, the Evacuation Alert area has been adjusted.

Residents on evacuation alert should be prepared to leave their homes again on short notice, if fire conditions change. A detailed map showing the affected properties is available at http://www.cordemergency.ca/map.

Philpott Road Fire orders change to alerts: News Release No. 23

Effective 11 a.m. today, the remaining seven evacuation orders for the Philpott Road Fire have been downgraded to evacuation alerts and five other properties on “Our Road” have been removed from evacuation alert.

The following Evacuation Orders have been rescinded and are now Alerts:

1120 Philpott Road
1230 Philpott Road
1231 Philpott Road
1330 Philpott Road
1350 Philpott Road
1470 Philpott Road
1495 Philpott Road

And the following Evacuation Alerts have been rescinded:

The fire is no longer a wildfire of note. Several other fires in BC have been taken off the list of "wild fires of note" including the Precipice fire in the Coastal Fire Centre. The same cannot be said in the East Kootenays where fires are going crazy. The Kenow Mountain fire in the southeast corner has exploded overnight to spread 20km into Alberta. Unlike the Okanagan and Cariboo, this area is one of the windiest places in Canada.

Holy crap, exploded indeed. Always knew Waterton was a when, not an if. I remember just being horrified some days, after taking the wind readings - apparently yesterday was one of those days. Hopefully it stays out the valley, but it doesn't look good.

(sorry off topic.)
Drip Torch - an upright and steadfast keeper of the flame, but when tilted sideways the contents spill and then our destiny is in the wind...
