Burnt Pine Needles & Ashes

Post by 14Karma »

I live in West Kelowna / Smith Creek area and am getting a little nervous...I am getting a lot of ash and burnt pine needles on my patio. I didn't get this much during the 2003 fire! Does anybody have any idea where this is coming from? How could anyone even spot a new fire in this soupy haze?

Everyone complaining about it and think this is all coming from the States - we should collect it and ship it back lol. It's a pain to clean up but a reminder how intense fires are.

Don't worry - the winds will change and the ash will land on someone else's doorstep - I think tomorrow.

That is really strange because there isn't a whisper of wind right now....really weird...Thru all these fires, this is the first time this summer I have found burnt pine needles on my patio.

Yes exactly. As soon as Ferri gets her backyard ready for all incoming packages of ashes, we should be right on that.

Good idea Fancy.

The type of winds that carry what you are finding are those in 15,000+ range. Similar to those that carried ash from Mt St Helens back in 1980 all over western states & Canada.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Went out to my parking lot and watched the ash falling on the vehicles out there. I've been here (West Kelowna) thru 03, 04 and all the other fires, including big ones north and south that brought in plenty of smoke over the years. Never seen this much ash and the skies quite as eerie since 03. Hard not to believe there's not some sneaky fire burning in the bush somewhere, lying undetected due to all the thick smoke. I'm sure it's just "boogeymen in the closet" syndrome that has me freaked out, but it looks pretty awful out there and the ash IS pretty crazy.

Careful, Trump might slap a tariff on that "free" flavour.

Let the Canadian Tire / Home Depot area about 30 minutes ago and though for sure that was ash on my windshield. Came home to see this post and see that Im not the only one. The car parked beside me was black and it looked like someone had cleaned a paintbrush beside it as it was covered in grey spots. Not a breath of wind out there. The ash must be super high up like Gordon stated earlier. Lived here all my life and only remember seeing ash fall like this once before. Pretty eerie lookin out there this evening.

Ash "Falling like Snow"

Post by Straight Shooter »

Last time I've seen ash fall like this was when Mt. St. Helens erupted back in 1980. There's been many wild fires since then and although tons of smoke still no ash like were experiencing. A wild fire burning in Washington State close to the BC. border is thought to be the cause of this ash but that still doesn't explain, "Why Now"?
