According to the specs I can find on the ASUS from Amazon it only has 1 memory slot so you cannot upgrade to 12 g it will only take 1 RAM card max 8g. It is also the slowest processor of the ones you chose.

I would go with the i7 from Newegg. You will not have any problems running your programs with this one but could have problems with the i3 core.

Open Office or Libreoffice will work with Excel files.

Macs are always an option but overpriced for the same specs in a PC.

It was listed in the questions and reviews as having 2 RAM slots and being easy to upgrade. But if the processor isn't good enough I should probably write that one off. Too bad, it was a good deal.

I think you need to go to Dell because you can build it the way you need it. You will end up with a Killer lap top for 1k or less with everything you need and nothing you don't.

I haven't looked at Dell yet. I set my last office up with Dell and we were happy with how everything turned out. I'll check them out.

They're definitely worth a look, and about the only place where you can select the configuration you wish. I've not regretted any Dell purchases.

$1000.

Do you have a link for that one? I'm on the site but there's way too many options to start from.

The first time I found it the price was 999.99, can't seem to find that price again.
Maybe talk to them as the non touch and the touch screen were the same price.

JLives,

I am a technology consultant. I spec products and systems for large companies, children, small home based businesses and non-profits.

My best advice is to not get into a race for price, race for what's right.

This is the laptop for you:

http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/thinkpad/p-series/p50s/

Add the docking station for this laptop, so you can add two external monitors and you have the ultimate portable and home office production machine.

Docking station: http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/itemdetails/40A20090US/460/6D501EE899104FF9A362D739642CFC27#40A20090US

Add the following:
Windows 10 pro
Intel i7-6500
15.5" 3K IPS (2880x1620),No Touch,WWAN
8GB PC3-12800 DDR3L 1600MHz SODIMM
256 GB Solid State Drive, SATA3 OPAL2.0
6 Cell Li-Ion Battery 72WH Cylindrical Rear
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC(2x2) 8260, Bluetooth Version 4.1 No vPro

Typical lifecycle of a laptop is about 6 years now. This setup is worth the investment.
You can easily update the SSD and RAM yourself. These models are designed to be serviceable.
A RAM and SSD upgrade takes about 15 minutes.

Why not a bigger SSD and a 9 cell battery?

Lenovo is solid. I forgot about that brand.

If money is no object, I'd double the RAM, double the SSD, biggest battery and update to the XEON based configurations.

Being a technical consultant I assume you forgot to add the caveat, "it depends on what you purchase," not to mention how you use it, given that there is a lot of cheap crap out there that would be doing well to last three years, just as some that get used once a month tend to last forever.

Ironically a five year old Lenovo was the latest paperweight I inherited last night.

Just steal one from some dumb student who leaves theirs at Starbucks while they run out for a smoke or to the washroom. :smt045

Over 3 grand for what you suggest. She will need to win the Lotto first.
She could buy 3 from Newegg and have 2 spares so when 1 dies she just pulls another out and keeps on working.
