Hey Jo....this is what I know about computers....
energy saver...I have none...3 kids
system preference....boys for me
control panel...mom always
drive spin...hockey again...
sorry had to it.
I know this thing says virtual memory low all the time, but I can't change it.
I have tried to do disc space thinning, or what ever that is, but nothing works.

I like your take on computer terms! I think this is my fault, I don't know the PC terms for the same items. We'll have to wait until a PC user wakes the heck up and answers your question.

Why does my computer shut off every night?
And no...I don't turn it off
Puffster you have 2 choices:
1) call me later this morning and I'll walk you through it ...or
2) minimize everything you have open,
Right click anywhere on your monitor screen and a window will pop up.
Go to "properties."
Open "screen saver."
At the bottom there should be an "Energy" logo.Open that.
There should be settings for when to automatically shut down your monitor and your hard drive etc.
These need to be re-set to "Never."
Damn I hope I explained that properly...

Interestingly, 'PC' just stands for 'personal computer', however in popular use it means a non-Mac, ie the world is full of Macs and PCs (and just to confuse you, Macs *are* PCs, but not in the popular sense of the word). Okay, anyway, Crash has answered your dilemma, I see!

MrBill wrote:My money would be on the phishing or popups, then addons(google toolbars are evil!)....that list was pretty extensive on the link site....a lot to have to try....
MrBill
Thank you so much again for that link!
I'll be honest and tell you that I cannot remember which site I was on (your link, or MS) but a suggestion was to go in and reset IE to default settings. (big Mistake!!)
Lost Java etc, couldn't open ANYTHING after the initial page...
So next suggestion was to uninstall IE, re-install..
Yesterday I did this, (and uninstalled Java and reinstalled..bla bla bla)
IE 7 has automatically checked the boxes for Phishing, pop-ups etc. *I unchecked all of those.
Went ahead and restarted..low and behold I was back to being able to open another tab, but not redirect off of the initial page...about then I was ready to lose it.
Chevy comes home for lunch..jumps on, and switches from main page, directly to another site.
Don't know how long it will last...but I have saved your link on my 'puter for next time..
Thank you!!
