Image re-sizer for Vista/W7?
I had a great re-sizer for XP, but haven't found a good application for Vista/W7. Anyone have one to suggest?
So I love the Okanagan but it's a place best enjoyed from atop a very large pile of $100 bills. - Spocky

I always liked the image resizer Powertoy on XP because it was built right into the right-click menu. Found this but haven't tried it:

I'm fairly certain Irfanview will do what you want, provided I didn't misunderstand.
I use it on Win7 Pro............ http://www.irfanview.ca/
It gives me various options such as pre determined sizes, or manually set ones, as well aspect ratio can be kept or set aside.

That's pretty much what I'm looking for. Just something for preset size to resize pics for uploading.
Thanks

Should work perfect for you then, you're welcome.
Oh as you get familiar with it, pay attention to where it stores photo's you work with, by default.
It's been quite a while since I installed it, and I don't use it too often, but do remember at first being a bit puzzled as to where it put stuff.

Really? Or are you talking about the comment on the rating? I haven't tried this one myself but I take those virus warnings with a pretty hefty grain of salt. Pretty much any download with a comment section has the obligatory "it's a virus" these days. This one hooks into the context menus so I'd imagine that will trip warnings, but I definitely can't vouch for it.
I liked the original XP powertoy version because you don't need to run an image editing program, just right-click the jpgs and say resize and it offers up all the common presets for image sizes, custom size, aspect ratio etc... and puts the new jpgs right there beside the originals.

Any reason not to just use Windows Paint that comes with Windows? Seems quick and easy to resize pictures.

A friend pointed out Paint.NET to me a few years ago. Sort of a Photoshop clone, although it does fall short in a few places (like how it handles text). Still, an awesome program for doing basic image editing.

Can only speak for myself, but I find Irfanview easier, plus I believe it has more built in functions for that type of task. I do use Paint for a variety of things also though.

Re: Image re-sizer for Vista/W7?
I just find Windows Paint a quick and easy to use approach specifically for resizing (usually reducing picture size for quick and light e-mailing or uploading). I have my laptop set up to open any picture file I click on in Windows Photo Viewer (under Win 7 Ultimate). If I need to deal further with the picture as to size, Windows Photo Viewer provides a one click drop down menu option to open Paint with the picture already in it. "Resize" is right there and obvious - one click on that and you have the otions you need for resizing. Save it wherever and you're good to go.
Any serious photoediting I reserve for my desktop systems, and I have a number of different editing programs there that I use, including IrfanView. But I actually prefer my ancient Adobe Photodeluxe Business Edition for dealing with most of my needs there.

For sending pictures via email my mail resizes it for me just pick which size I want, as for resizing I use Elements.

Actually, with the image displayed on your screen via Windows Picture Viewer or whatever, the Windows 7 snipping tool provides a quick way to capture the image directly from your screen and transmit properly sized images, even cropped images, directly through a default e-mail client such as Windows Live Mail too. No pre-editing at all required. If you can see it you can "snip it", then "save it", and/or "send it".
You can even notate or highlight it with coloured pens before you do.

Here are screen shots of my mail & iPhoto Nab (minus personal info)
iPhoto
So it's built into both (resize) can't get much easier than that. I can email directly from iPhoto.

Re: Image re-sizer for Vista/W7?
I gather those are Apple based? Yes, you can do the same thing with embedding pictures directly inline into Windows Live Mail emails too, and simply drag a corner to the size you want - no need for resizing in a separate photo editor at all. But I prefer e-mail in plain text rather than HTML/RichText, and attaching pictures rather than embedding them, ....which means that in order to get bigger sized hi res pictures (and resulting massive file sizes in many cases) down to something reasonable for e-mailing as an attachment you have to resize by some other means first. In most cases that's where the Windows 7 snipping tool, then through that direct to Windows Live e-mail as an attachment, is as efficient as anything.
But if one is using an older version of Windows such as XP and Windows Live Mail, and prefers sending pictures as attachments to a plain text message rather than embedded, then some alternative program is need to capture or open and resize the picture first if too big. There are third party tools that work in XP similar to the Win 7 screen snipping tool however. The one that I use is Gadwin Print Screen, which launches when you hit the PrntScrn key on your keyboard and enables you to define the area on your screen you wish to capture, and resize it, before sending it to your choice of either the clipboard, to file, to printer, or via your e-mail client.
BTW, although Gadwin comes with the PrntScrn key as the default hotkey, you can easily change its triggering hotkey to whatever you wish. And another nice feature is you can capture the mouse pointer too. It's all good if cropping and/or resizing and perhaps notating a picture efficiently then sending it directly on its way is the only thing you need to do, and don't need or want to launch a full photo editor.
