The only way to stop illegal downloading of movies is to go back to dialup! Unless you don't mind waiting 277 hours to download a 5 GB movie -- then find out it's fake!

Yes, Louis CK did that, along with Coldplay. But most of their success comes from novelty factor, and if everyone was doing this, the success ratio would fall through...

I prefer to buy right from the artist's site; best way to cut out the fat cat middlemen as much as possible. (other than buying albums from a concert) You tend to get more bang for your buck as well. Here's the last CD I purchased:

Lonewolf, regarding malware on P2P sites - it's definitely an issue, altho a generalization. Using open access/public sites is asking for trouble, for sure. I call that Internet Darwinism - those people get what they deserve. lol Can't say I've ever had any issues, myself.

Just a little bump, since this is still ongoing. I found a neat little site that collects info about what IP has downloaded which torrent... it's a proof of concept kind of thing, and uses the same tech that these court cases are built on. Hint: it isn't always accurate.

In my case, it lists 8 movies. A few are listed as being downloaded more than one (one says 7 times) and most are pornography. But I have never downloaded any of them. (I've never even heard of them) Meanwhile, I've downloaded at least 1,000 torrents over the past year, none of which are listed. lol It figures.

More news:

CIPPIC has been granted full intervenor status in the case. Huge win for TekSavvy & their customers; basically, it looks like Voltage won't win a thing & will instead end up paying TekSavvy's costs for this entire debacle.

So, they went after Teksavvy customers...
