Places to buy computer hardware
Geek from the States close to the border--- where from Vernon South to the Border do you geeky types go to buy computer hardware or do you do it all online? Just curious on where to stop next time I'm coming through.

Locally Wytek Electronics, but much of my stuff comes from NCIX or Canada Direct online.
NCIX and Canada Direct are pretty much selling wholesale, and both have very fast shipping, provided the item is in stock.

Newegg.ca has some good deals too.
I got Married because I was sick and tired of finishing my own sentences.
That's worked out great for me!

op is from the US, why would he/she go to a canadian online store? they can get the product a lot cheaper from a US online store.

Some electronics are cheaper in Canada because of high duties the US puts on imports from China. Add the difference in currency and I can see some things possibly being a bargain here for them.

Re: Places to buy computer hardware
The reason I'm asking is because I'm from Tonasket which is 30 +/- km from the border and Penticton/Kelowna/Vernon is significantly closer to me than driving to Seattle. I'm just talking physical stores, sometimes I'm trying to simply balance out that trade discrepancy by shopping with my neighbours (Canadian spelling) to kickstart some cross border pollination. And simply I'm a geek from the States.

NCIX and Newegg.
There's no need for anything else. Local stores are a god awful rip off.

NCIX and 'Direct Canada' are both owned by the same company and also have US websites. If you're in the USA then NCIX or Newegg are the best places for shopping online for computer parts/components.

Wytek has very reasonable prices for a local store. At times I buy from them because the item I'm purchasing is much easier to return if need be. Depending on what you need, NCIX, Newegg or Wytek could all be the best place to shop.

When I did my build they matched or beat Newegg and NCIX's prices.
Additionally they do all the RMA stuff for you, should you need to do that.
Local business. Good deals sometimes. Low overhead ;)

While not exactly a computer store, it's always fun to while away an hour browsing the surplus electronics section at Princess Auto on Spall Rd.

They're still in business! You wouldn't think so from looking at their website. They had a 50" plasma TV in their living room before most people even knew what a flat-screen TV was. Last thing I bought from them was a Ultra ATA IDE cable for $30. Better prices and advice than Anno Computers or Northern Computers.
I buy all my computer hardware online using sites like shopbot.ca and resellerratings.com and it must be free shipping!

That's for sure. I use ncix, atic, and futureshop... On a number of occassions, FS has matched and beaten ncix online in stock pricing for me. Other times they make up a story to avoid beating the competition.
