Have been using Avast form the last 10 years : free and one of the best.
They offer premium service: you don't need premium : free is excellent!

AVG used to be quite light on resources, but it has since jumped onto the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink bandwagon and has become nothing more than bloatware (like Norton or McAffee). It’s still excellent antivirus, just don’t run it on anything other than current (and decently powerful) hardware.

Make sure you only have 1 Virus scanner installed and running at any one time! This is "Very" important!!!
