Re: Texting app
I have been using TextNow on my computers and my Windows phone and it works well on both.
It's available for android as well.

Re: Texting app
whatsapp worked kinda like BBM, in that the other person had to have a whatsapp account as well. You couldn't just text to any phone number.
Stopped using it once it stopped being free.

I use text plus. It's easy to earn credits to make phone calls in addition to the free texting.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

For the little use I make of an actual phone I use gmail on the computer, free calling across North America.

With textnow you get a phone number assigned and it uses that. You can also make phone calls over WiFi as well but I have not done that. I just like the free texting from my computer.

My friends and I all use Telegram. It's essentially the same as Whatsapp except it allows profile pics and gifs, and it's not owned by facebook.

Re: Texting app
I tried the TextNow app, I can hear people well but everyone I spoke with said they could barely hear me and that I was cutting out. I also received a notification yesterday that I have to either make a phone call or text every 5 days or I'm losing the phone number they assigned me. It's crap, I uninstalled it and would not recommend it.

Interesting because I have been using it for a month or so and don't do a lot of texting with it. I have never received a message like that. Don't make calls with it so can't comment on that.
