Rare Supermoon Lunar Eclipse: One Week Away
With the huge supermoon lunar eclipse just one week away, it's time to dust off your small telescopes and binoculars, track down an observatory event or webcast, or draft your invitations for a moon-cake party. Don't wait too long — if you miss it, the next one isn't until 2033.
The supermoon lunar eclipse of 2015 will occur Sunday, Sept. 27, and is a confluence of three events: a full moon; a lunar eclipse, in which the Earth blocks the sun's light from hitting the moon; and lunar perigee, when the moon is in the closest part of its orbit to Earth. The last time such a confluence happened was in 1982; there were just five instances of it in the 20th century. This time around, viewers looking from the Americas, Europe, Africa, western Asia and the eastern Pacific Ocean will have a chance to see the show.

Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

You can input your city instead of Penticton and see the animated video of what you will see and when. Basically the same for most of the Okanagan.

About 2 hours away - Have my lens's cleaned and batteries charged and all set to head up to the golf course in Lumby.
Nice and high - minimal light pollution - and even benches to sit on...
Going to be a bit chilly - but doubt I will be alive for the next one....

It was a chilly one, worth it though. We've had a reddish moon for much of the summer with all the fires but this was much clearer, could still make out the details of the moon.
Favorite part was when the sun started to light up the bottom left again, could see the shadows from features on the moon, really gave it a 3D effect through binoculars.

What foreground do you plan to use?
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

my wife is the editor. We have a creepy looking tree that we can line up with our roof so essentially bottom 3rd is a v shaped roof with this creepy tree up the middle and the moon behind it.

Hey Jag - this is one of those times when you can be right and wrong at the same time
you're right - that's not a picture of the eclipse - only the blue blood part
you're wrong - it's not fake - here's the captions that went with his photos:
always good to be skeptical though

Super Blue Blood Moon in Jerusalem tonight...
We went to the top of the Tower of David museum for a spectacular view of the Super Blue Blood Moon in Jerusalem tonight.
...We don't get to see the eclipse from here, but the moon was still amazing!

Re: Rare Supermoon Lunar Eclipse: One Week Away
Ok. The moon they saw was the super blue moon. The "blood" part is the eclipse. The orange colour in the pic is either caused by atmospheric particulates such as dust and smoke or it was "played with".
Super - moon at perigee
Blue - 2 full moons in one month
Blood - red colour caused by light refraction in the earth's atmosphere
2 out of 3 aint bad
What I saw at 5:30am. Not clear sky and could not keep camera still enough.
