Apparently works with no connection. There are others as well. I used a Nexus 7 for awhile as my car GPS and it worked fine with no internet.

Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!

Firstly, the GPS on a phone does not require WiFi or Data or Bluetooth to be present. It works independently.
Google maps may not be the best. They claim that you can load the maps offline and I've done it, but I have not tested it with GPS functionality. Another option is to use something like a Garmin navigation app for your phone (android?) or BSuds suggestion.

Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Thanks. I knew about saving the maps offline. An Internet connection is necessary for loading the map in order to save it.

Ill look into Bsuds suggestion, for an iPhone.

I rarely use google maps so I don't remember if wifi is needed to load map.
