MacAfee to a computer is like molasses to an insect.
Looks like you got a great unit. I like Dell and have a 4 year old Inspiron XPS that still works just fine.
Defender is a great anti virus program. You really don't need anything else but if you wanted to consider Malware Bytes, that is a great piece of unobtrusive software that will add another layer of protection and once you buy it, it's yours forever. No annual bills like most others. I highly recommend it.
Have fun.

A great app and definitely a timesaver for geeks, as it will install your items unsupervised.

Yep, I don't mind throwing that out there. Once she does some research on what she wants I figured this is the least painful way to go.

So I was watching a movie last night and the screen blacked out twice. I had to restart. What is going on? Did I get a lemon? I still have bout a week to return it.

Watching a movie as in a DVD or streaming it?

It's probably going to sleep due to perceived inactivity. I'll bet you'll find it only happens when running on battery.
Adjust the power options to suit your needs. Shouldn't have required a reboot to wake it up tho.

Depends on what the power settings are but your're right the power settings are needing adjusting.

It was playing off the hard drive. Hitting the space bar and other keys would not wake it up. I mean pressing gently. It going to sleep does make sense and that's how it looked but it wouldn't "wake up" until manually restarted with the power key. I'll check my settings.

Part of the reason (major part) I buy the computers I do is reliability since both the hardware and software are made by same company.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Re: Buying a laptop
I never allow a computer to go into hibernation/sleep mode as for the most part it's proven to be a pain in the butt.
I can't speak for others, but I've never had a computer that didn't freeze o refuse to wake up, once it went into hibernation, not to mention I've experienced the same thing with PC and Apple.
I'd experiment with the "power" settings in control panel.

Ditto to that. I never bother with sleep or hibernate modes. Given a SSD, it boots fast enough anyways. Maybe it is an issue of the past but many suffer from sleep/hibernate ptsd.

I'd try that and see if you still experience the same issue.
You said you'd been watching a movie, but you didn't really say if you'd walked away and left the laptop unattended, which then manifested itself in a black screen when you wanted to resume watching?

Just hanging out watching it, I never left but the room was dark.
