The start menu won't come up.
Task manager freezes.
Web browser issues: (Edge is gone completely, and Chrome works, but first shows a helluva long error)
Won't restore to most recent restore point.

Did the Start Menu Repair Tool thing. Did the scannnow thing. Did the restore health thing.

What's next? Sledgehammer?

Yeah yeah yeah, given the response to this thread, you are all about as competent as Microsoft is.

A clean install it is and treating this OS with kid gloves is required.

Clean install doesnt take long. Just don't go overboard on anti-whatever software. windows has it all baked in.

If you're feeling a bit Randy tonight, try installing Ubuntu desktop.

I would contact MS and tell them that you need to uninstall and reinstall the OS to make sure that you have their support when it comes to time to reinstall. If you can, back up everything you have and then do a system restore.

I have used 10 on 4 computers since it came out and have had no issues but that doesn't mean sheeite don't happen.

Once Windows 10 has been installed and activated on a computer, MS knows what computer it is, and will automatically activate the clean install.

I've never had to call anyone.

This will be clean install #2 on this f'r. I'm beginning to think the original manufacturer has some shiznit in it somewhere.

You should be using an imaging program to back up your drive c such as MacriumReflect. They used to have a FREE unlimited program, but that was for version 6. They have moved on to version 7, but they have taken away the free unlimited version. they do have a trial version that is good for 30 days.

It will copy ALL of your drive C, windows 10 and any installed software. To restore the drive will take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to completely restore your drive. You will be back up and running in no time. Painless and worth the money. It can also back up your other drives or partitions you have on your computer.

After you do your clean install of windows 10 and all the software you will be using on that computer, go download Reflect 7, trial version and back up your drive C. Do not save the image on Drive C though! Save it to a 10 to 60 GB thumb or external drive. (the size of the drive depends on how big your drive C is) Then from within the program, make a bootable thumb drive that you will use to restore your computer from the image you created.

That is a tempting option!

My laptop was running Windows 10 which I upgraded to when it was free. It worked just fine until the Anniversary update.
It will not install the update and I have tried everything suggested to me. It just sticks at 40%.
MS tells me I have a bad hard drive...That's BS because it runs Linux and Win 8.1 just fine.
I think there is a driver problem but everything is up to date so I'm stuck.

I will try again with the new update coming next week but won't hold my breath and if it doesn't work I'll just stay with 8.1.

I've seen quite a few hard drive failures recently. Hard drives running in caution state causing all kinds of 'slowness', hanging and crashing without apparent error messages or log entries. Try checking your hard drive health with CrystalDiskInfo:

I have done that and many other tests!

I'm convinced there is a driver issue and unless the OEM comes up with a new one or Mickey Soft fixes the issue I'm hooped.
