WiFi meshing

Anybody try or recommend any of these? Basically you connect one to your modem, and the others go in other areas of your home, distributing the WiFi. Typically 3 bands and supports MU-MIMO.

It works. Using a wired backhaul is better than a wireless backhaul. Im a Google snob, so I've set up three Google Wifi pucks in my apartment. One has a wired backhaul, and the furthest point out is acting as a wifi repeater. It's the weakest link. It can still stream Netflix, but video calls (ie., Hangouts) are jittery.

I use a plug in wifi range extender. It was really easy to set up. Has its own lcd screen with touch keyboard. Its called tap x

On the off chance that it might be useful I just thought I'd share what I did.

I had the luxury of running a CAT6 cable to the far end of my place opposite the location of the main router, so I use a second router that I had, as a repeater, thus I have 5G and 2.4G broadcast from both sides of the place and signal is strong all over.

I'm still trying to find the conduit that carries the power to my garage so I can do the same ... made a killing buying over 1000' of Cat5E for $25 off Castanet ... are you using Tomato or DD-WRT or just off-the-shelf?

Just an off the shelf Cisco/Linksys dual band router, along with the Shaw dual band modem/router both of which handle gigabit speeds.

I did find out the hard way that cable choice plays an important role when gigabit speeds are involved.

I am currently using an off-the-shelf D-Link 868L which isn’t too bad but spotty performance depending on other neighbourhood noise sources, and performance gets laggy over time fixed by a weekly reboot. It is downstairs with the modem. Most wireless access is from the next floor up.

I am tempted to try some MIMO supporting wireless, maybe I can try to see how far I can get running cat6 under the floor and use that as the backhaul. The advantage of my downstairs is the ceiling is just tiles.
