Gratuities in Kelowna - Can anyone explain?

I know a woman in Kamloops who quit her job as a server because her boss was pressuring her to show cleavage even though she was not comfortable dressing immodestly. I'm sure this is not an isolated case.

I find it to be an embarrassment when I go to Cactus Club or Joeys with the way the girls dress.
You will get a smaller tip from me for attempting to use your body to get more
Sorry that's just the way it is
I still maintain that a tip is to be earned, not expected

Indeed..Got prompt service from the "pie guy" tonight along with a friendly smile and some casual banter.
Gave him 8 bucks on a 45 dollar bill.
I payed attention in High school....But not to what they were trying to teach me..

Technically you are correct. However, have you heard of a place called Hooters....... Not all women share your opinion.

Tips have not "always been expected". People used to tip in advance to get better service.
I wish I had gotten to this first.
DashFiveGuy wrote:Seriously? Wouldn't that make it a T.E.P.? I think the word you are looking for is "Insure" not "Ensure". Regardless, the point is moot because the word "tip" is NOT an acronym.

lol No doubt. You should have said "irregardless" and bolded it though. I would have laughed harder.

Haven't posted in this thread in awhile, but I just came across an interesting TEDx talk held at Guelph, Ontario University regarding tipping that I feel backs up a lot of my previous claims that tipping as a whole is grossly out of proportion, providing quite high wages to servers for what is essentially an entry level position, and creating a large wage gap between the (often) more experienced, and trained cooks/chefs (hence my advocacy of tip sharing). It also shows that even in restaurants that have implemented a tip sharing program, that the wage gap is still grossly mis-proportioned.

Sooooooooooo much easier to stay home and prepare quality food for a fraction of the cost with no intimidation to pay extra for something I don't want to.

Agreed. Eating out is mostly over rated crap, and in Kelowna, mostly Sysco-grade muck.
As for a TED video made by some hobbit, who cares. Tip or not, your call.

I found the servers at the Hooters in Calgary to be more conservatively dressed than most "normal" servers in Kelowna...
