My wife is from Washington State, and as a result I've discovered that the vast majority of people think Seattle and Washington are synonyms.
"So, I hear you're from Seattle."
"No, the place I"m from is actually no closer to Seattle than Kelowna is."
"Oh, I swear I hear Seattle."

The last time I checked the weather isn't responsible for anything other than inconvenience or pleasure. As for being in care and control of a motor vehicle I wonder how ICBC will collect the deductible for this one if "weather" was at the wheel.
Weather sends car down embankment

Two young women were fortunate to come away uninjured after their Ford Explorer fell 35 feet down an embankment.
The accident occurred Saturday afternoon as heavy snow was falling, causing the roads to be very slick.
The SUV was travelling southbound when it lost control, slid across the highway through a pair of concrete barriers and down an embankment.
It was stopped by some large rocks and trees.
The Kaleden Fire Department managed to extricate the two women out of the vehicle.
Both were scared, but not injured.

Re: Misleading/wrong media headlines
There is a distinct difference between being "found guilty" and being "convicted" It appears Mr. Brinnen got the complimentary "slap on the wrist" versus any actual punishment unless that punishment is still to be decidedduring the review. Regardless thus far he has in no way been CONVICTED of anything.

Cst. Brinnen leaves court following testimony during his assault trial in November, 2010"We are dealing with people that, in desperate moments are asked to make decisions. Sometimes mistakes are made."
Those words from Kelowna RCMP Supt. Bill McKinnon during a brief press conference to address the conviction of Cst. Chris Brinnen.
Earlier in the day, Brinnen was convicted of one count of assault stemming from an incident outside a Leon Avenue nightclub following bar close on February 15, 2010.
Brinnen and Kyle Nelson had an encounter outside Gotcha's night club.
There was a verbal exchange that led to a brief foot pursuit down an alley.
According to McKinnon, the judge stated Cst. Brinnen and his police dog caught up with Nelson as he was attempting to scale a fence.
The male turned, brought his arms up and Brinnen 'instantly closed in and struck the male.'
The judge in the case ruled Brinnen used excessive force in trying to apprehend Nelson on that evening.
He stated the constable 'operated too fast, went too far and there were other reasonable options available.'
"I have immediately placed the member on administrative duty while a Comprehensive Operational Readiness Assessment is being conducted," says McKinnon.

Kyle Nelson shows injuries inflicted by Cst. Brinnen"This assessment will involve a number of steps including a review of the judge's comments."
McKinnon says until a final decision is reached, Brinnen will remain on desk duty.
"He will not be responding to any calls. He is not out on the road at this point in time."
Brinnen is one of several Kelowna Mounties either charged or convicted in recent years.
Cst. Steve Conlon was found guilt of assault in relation to an incident in Rutland in February of 2009.
Cst. Kent Hall was found guilty of careless use of a firearm during that same incident.
In January of last year, Cst. Geoff Mantler was caught on tape kicking Buddy Tavares in the face during a takedown.
Mantler has been charged with assault in that case and one other. He has been suspended without pay.
Despite the convictions, McKinnon says he doesn't believe there is a problem with the Kelowna Detachment.
"I really don't (think there is a problem) within the detachment," says McKinnon.
"We deal with a lot of issues.
Brinnen will be sentenced April 24.

^^^The judge ruled Brinnen used excessive force which resulted in the conviction - the judge found him guilty as charged otherwise he would have been acquitted or found not guilty. Sentence will be handed down April 24.

Feds threatening same sex marriages
How does one get that headline out of this article..?
How does one get that headline out of this article..?
The federal government is expected to take steps today to close a legal loophole that could have undermined thousands of gay marriages around the world.
The governing Conservatives are expected to detail changes to the Civil Marriage Act to ensure the marriages are recognized.
The changes are being prompted by a divorce case in Ontario involving a gay couple.
Legal documents filed by the federal government in the case had argued that even though the couple married in Canada, they couldn't be considered legally married because it wasn't recognized in their U.S. and United Kingdom homes.
Gay rights activists and opposition politicians accused the Tories of trying to rewrite the rules on same-sex marriage to suit their own agenda.
But the government says its opinion is that the marriages were valid and it doesn't want to reopen the debate on the definition of marriage.
A spokeswoman for Justice Minister Rob Nicholson says the situation raised by the case was an anomaly in civil marriage law and the changes will fix it.

^ You'll have to ask Punchy about that on.
This headline is just wrong:
Westside Road worst in BC
Funny how all the worst roads happen in places near urban centres.. probably because less travelled roads don't have enough users to get enough votes even though they could be just as bad or worse than Westside road.

Penticton-drops-Ironman

IMO that is misleading since it only the name Ironman being dropped. The headline as is makes it appear like this whole event is being dropped.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to under estimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Traffic flow on Harvey to improve by fall
WRONG! Nowhere in the article does it mention improved traffic flow on Harvey. Quite the opposite is the likely scenario since additional left turns tends to worsen traffic flow.
Improved safety, yes; improved flow, no.
