Is that a picture of you holding a lady Schick shaver? lol. Kinda looks like it. I wouldn’t use it on my legs after using it on Chinese elm.

Guys, guys, guys....

https://wunderwoods.wordpress.com/2014/ ... inese-elm/

You guys are, um, barking up the wrong tree. The awful, invasive, seed spewing mess that is the Siberian Elm (Ulmus pumila) is what should earn your unending hatred, not the true Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia). Yes, I know it's a common misnomer. The Chinese Elm is a nice bonsai tree that doesn't deserve to have its name dragged through the mud.

A day isn't wasted when I learn something new. Thanks for post, oldblinddog.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

I had forgotten all about it - Great memory there, QK!

I'd be happy if they all up and died.

I'm getting a tree of heaven starting to sprout in my garden. The only thing I can figure is a root left alive from when we cut down the one by our house - 10 or so years ago. This year, it's popping up everywhere. :-X
I haven't failed until I quit.

MASSIVE BUMP BUT NEEDED:

Can the Regional District order you to get rid of invasive trees on private property? Maybe by this Thursday.

I will happily point out several Chinese/Siberian Elms around the neighbourhood absolutely infesting the neighbourhood with threatening seeds. These trees spread and spread and often the property owner has no idea what to look for or how to prevent them from growing. Especially if they're living in a property they can't manage the way they used to due to aging. Seriously, get rid of those trees!

https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/4 ... ure#478756

Three species of trees are facing the axe in the Central Okanagan if the regional district declares them invasive.

The RDCO board is being asked to follow the lead of the City of Kelowna and list the Tree of Heaven, Siberian Elm and Russian Olive trees as invasive. That would allow the regional district to order the removal of them from private property.

The Tree of Heaven, in particular, is particularly dangerous to the region, according to a staff report prepared for the board. It is the preferred host of the spotted lanternfly, an invasive species that has not yet arrived in B.C.

We have some siberian elms across the road and in a few months they will bush up and encroach on a lane of the road. They also grow about 10 feet per year so every few years I rent a Genie lift and whack the tops off ( hwys property).
Currently they are short and I plan to cut them and if I can find some Copper 2 wood preservative, paint the cuts with that.
100 feet to the north, a hedge of sumac, tree of heaven. Same thing, whack the tops off as they grow around 15 feet/year.

They do need to be banned then they can be ripped out and get a nice truck ride to the dump.

Banned?
Why do some think that banning the trees will stop them from growing?
Do you think the trees care what political stance the city takes?
It will be very nearly impossible to remove these things.
Sure one can cut them down, but they will continue to sucker up.
Can only manage them now. They are here to stay.

To remove them requires a rather large hole. Those things have huge long tap roots. Likely developed because they kept being yanked out... :200:

You can cut them down but some kick *bleep* tree poison is required just inside the bark where the xylem and phloem hide. those will take the poison down to the roots. Worked in our yard.

If you read the article the banning would allow the City and Regional District to force homeowners to remove them.

I venture to guess there are more of these trees on public kind than private.

They are almost impossible to remove fully.
Just sayin

Property Owners Could Be Told To Remove Trees

Post by vinnied »

This is gonna be very interesting. The RDCO, and the city better make sure every invasive tree on their land is removed before they start sending bylaw after home owners.

Also a good place for them to start, would be preventing some like the Russian Olive trees from being sold locally, it they want them banned.
