Myths that refuse to die
Here are 10 myths that refuse to die:
1) The discovery of the spherical shape of the Earth does not date to the modern era or to the Middle Ages. It was well known throughout the Hellenistic period (c. 300 BC). [1]
2)There is no evidence that Vikings wore horns on their helmets. [2]
3) Al Gore never said that he "invented" the Internet; Gore actually said, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." [3]
4) Sarah Palin never said "I can see Russia from my house." Palin actually said "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." The "I can see Russia from my house" quote was said by Tina Fey, portraying Palin on Saturday Night Live. [4]
5) People do not use only ten percent of their brains (despite the crazy stuff they post on Castanet). [5].
6) Shaving does not cause hair to grow back darker, thicker or courser. [6]
7) Sugar does not cause hyperactivity in children. Double-blind trials have shown no difference in behavior between children given sugar-full or sugar-free diets, even in studies specifically looking at children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or those considered "sensitive" to sugar. The difference in behaviour proved to be psychological. [7]
8) Drinking milk and/or consuming other dairy products does not increase mucus production, thus it is not necessary to avoid it when suffering a cold. [8]
9) Prolonged exposure to cold weather such as rain or winter conditions has not been shown to increase the likelihood of catching a cold.[9]
10) Eating less than an hour before swimming doesn't increase the risk of experiencing muscle cramps or drowning. [10]

May I add myth number 11?
11.The louder a person shouts or the more a person dominates the the topic, does not make the person more correct than the softest whisper of truth.

As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Yes, that is kind of the idea!

Yes, but people think that this fact was a recent discovery.
12) The time of day you eat at does not make you fat, but rather, it's how much you eat and what you eat that does. Eating breakfast does not "start your metabolism", nor does it make a difference if your biggest meal is midday or just before bed.

Myth Number 13. If a woman accumulates more than three cats, she's "crazy." Totally a myth. Completely.

14) You can watch your dog run away for three days on the Prairies.
False. On perfectly flat land you can only see 4 km away. Here in Vernon I can easily see several times this distance because the land is not flat.
( R= 6365km; h = 0.0015 km; use Pythagoras and solve for d; easy peasy)

If that were true, the land wouldn't be perfectly flat... no?

The horizon is flat...
Myth #15: The Monday blues make it the worst day of the week.
Truth: There is no difference in mood between Monday and Thursday.
