Re: $950 to see a doctor at KGH! Really?
The OP may as well save his $950 for his family to use. It appears that whatever is ailing him has gone to his brain!
Medical care is not FREE...not in Canada nor the USA! It is expensive. That is why we pay premiums for insurance and that is why it is a priority for most of us to make sure we have medical coverage when we are in the country/province and when we travel outside of it.

Good to see costs actually do catch up to those who freeload off the medical system by not paying their dues. One thing I abhor is freeloaders. Everyone needs to pay their fair share, dammit!

Who said I don't pay my fair share of the cost?
Do you know that in QC, it costs about 400$/year for medicare + up to 1000$/year for a mandatory health tax, depending of your earnings?
To pay, let me tell you that the govt is taking every single penny they can from my pocket.
What I said, is that I'm without any insurance now.. for the past few days... because I forgot to apply for my card renewal, and that I will be charged retroactively. I've never said I was not paying, or trying not to have MSP, or running late in my payments.
BIG DIFFERENCE.
And the freeloaders ppl you're talking about, they would get the bill and never pay it back, then YOU and I, and the whole SOCIETY would take the loss. As for me, I'm waiting before going to the hospital, because I'm honest and will not purchase something I can't afford, even in case of an emergency. Like who have 3-5k to waste for any type of emergency? Heh, maybe food & gas will come first.

I call BS, you are far more than a few days late in paying your MSP premiums.
You are currently uninsured. That means you pay the full amount up front. Suck it up.

I'm not even late paying, and yes, just been without insurance for a few days!
$950 for a doctor visit at the hospital vs $50 at a walk-in clinic.. really?
Does anyone have the actual breakdown of the cost? This is outrageous.

I'll have an diagnoses, 4 exrays, some sutures, an MRI, and a happy meal with root beer please.
Can you change a fifty?
If you have a family, you should be ashamed of yourself.
You should ALL have proper MSP coverage.
You're lucky you didnt need a bypass surgery.

Comparable US story. Key point is the $1500 walk-in and room fees. Story also says they waited 3 hours.

The sum of all the medical costs came to $2580. The bill for physician assistant (PA) who looked at and sutured my husband's finger was $500. The hand specialist only charged us $80. It was the emergency room (ER) bill that exploded the costs. A look at the itemized charges from the emergency department revealed a $500 walk-in charge, a $500 tetanus shot, and a $1000 room fee.

Already tried to explain it, in detail.
Go ahead, be outraged. That is the way it is. Most grown-ups understand that.
Again,if you were cut off Jan one, that means you were more than a month behind in paying your premiums, not a couple of days.

The apples are better for you, keep you out of hospital
Meanwhile FC, if Quebec is cheaper might wanna go back there, here we pay about 66 a month single and thats kinda like an insurance policy in yer pocket, even if you go back many times in a month, better get er done! If you were really sick it could cost yer family thousands,,,

It appears that he remembered to pay for his internet service, but not the MSP.
Perhaps he needs to better prioritize.
That is, unless he is mooching free internet from some neighbour...

Nice cartoon. Your point?
Yes, you were out of Province. So whose fault is that?
Your premiums were not paid for more than a month and you were cut off.
Yup.
Have we learned something here?
Was no one picking up your mail for more than a month?
Did your heat and light also get cut off?
What other bills were neglected while you were away?
Rent? Mortgage?
Phone?

Re: $950 to see a doctor at KGH! Really?
Can't you go on-line and renew it? It takes two business days for it to go through. Your coverage will be from Jan 1st, if that is the date it expired. They send the renewal forms with lots of notice, so it seems like organizing your bills might be something you can resolve to do in the New Year! It's easy to forget some bills, such a car and house insurance, because they tend to send you notice at least 6 weeks in advance.
