Nature: Fight to the death - who wins?

Post by oneh2obabe »

Several people managed to witness the epic encounter in the Australian bush. Only one animal would survive.

It started with a water python deciding it wanted to lunch on a metre-long fresh water crocodile at Lake Moondarra in Australia's state of Queensland. Tiffany Corlis captured a series of pictures of the hours-long battle.

Corlis, who lives near the lake in Mount Isa, told ABC North West Queensland Radio Monday the crocodile had been fighting to keep its head above water. Finally, she said, the croc gave up.

Another witness, Alyce Rosenthal, told Fairfax Media in Australia on Monday the entire battle the day before lasted four or five hours. The lake is a popular canoeing site.

Associate Professor Bryan Fry from the University of Queensland's School of Biological Science, told the Brisbane Times small fresh water crocodiles are easy prey. The meal would do the snake for about a month, Fry said.

In another of the 14 pictures Corlis took, the snake nears the end of its meal. Witnesses said it just lay by the water afterwards, the outline of the crocodile visible under its skin.

Ok now that will be good for nightmares for about a month. Terrifying.

No one thought of ripping the snake open and save the croc?

Yeah right. Take a look at the length of the python then tell me you'll take it on to save the croc which is DEAD.

Why? Let nature be nature. It was pretty awesome.
