Who writes these headlines?

A potpourri of off-topics.

It's not just the headlines. I constantly read grammar errors in the text of stories on Castanet. And not just obscure things, either. Basic grammar. The kind of errors that we corrected when we were in elementary school. Not high school.

I see again and again errors like "there is six reasons for....." and then just today in a story about bobcats in the valley, hunting domestic animals and pets. We shouldn't be concerned because the bobcats are just "doing what comes natural."

My wife went back to school as a mature student and told me about a prof who blew up in class one day over the grammar issue. It turned out that most of the students couldn't tell the difference between an adjective and an adverb. Some didn't even know what a noun was, or a verb.

Yes, some of the errors are hilariously funny, but it just shows how pathetic many so-called journalists are with basic grammar.

again, today,...Headline says sledder found dead in cabin.....you read the story and it is about a sledder who was in medical distress and his friends and family were helping him while medical help was on the way. Unfortunately the sledder passed away...but he was not "found" "dead" in cabin dramatically like the headline suggests...I get so tired of these catch and grab headlines, and yes, they work..but still

From the article:

RCMP were made aware of a man in distress inside a sledders' cabin on the Graystokes trails about 12:40 p.m. on Monday.

“The helicopter winch rescue team from Vernon Search and Rescue was able to land on a nearby lake and they were able to send their members into the cabin where they worked on the gentleman,” Braun said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency medical crews by Vernon Search and Rescue helicopter arrived.

Who can spot all the grade 9 errors in this one. What a joke. Spelling, missing words. This has gone beyond 'who writes these headlines'. It's now the death of journalism

Grade nine errors ? Did you mean errors one would expect from a nine year old ?

It doesn't seem to matter what age or school grade as that is what comes out of the system these days.

Has been that way for a long time.

Why does Castanet insist upon headlines that use an adjective (fatal) versus the correct use of the noun (fatality)? Am I right in suspecting that the writers AND the editors don't understand the difference? :cuss:
Don't take my silence to mean I've agreed with you; I easily could've just lost interest in explaining how wrong you are.

Chased by rabies raccoon

ZERO proof the raccoon had rabies and as stated in the article more likely to have had distemper. There have been no cases of rabies in the Scarborough area.

Who changed the headline?
16 hours ago it said this:
Chased by infected raccoon - Canada News - Castanet.net

So where in this story does it show "mid teens" by Wed?

https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/2 ... week-ahead

Would be nice if it did.
