Steve Darling is gone from Global

This just in, Steve Darling has announced:

- "after 18 years my anchor position has been eliminated and I will no longer be an employee of Global BC..."

In my opinion that can only help Global, however in the last few years he hasn't seemed to be as big a boob as he used to be.

I'm sure one of the other 2 networks in Vancouver will hire him... CBC or CTV, or head to island CHEK.

I'm surprised global dumped him.
But, they've been paring that company to the bone.

Sorry to hear that I didn't mind him at all and it's sad to see anyone lose their jobs after so long.
The Company I worked for downsized a couple of times and I was given an early retirement but others were not that lucky.

Yup, the same thing almost happened to me. The corporation let everyone 55 and older go. They offered a "fair" compensation package, so there's nothing anyone could do but take it.

It's shocking what can be done to an employee who works hard and is successful, but as long as they pay compensation, they can fire you for age, height, color of hair or just nothing at all.

At the meeting with management, those getting fired said they would speak to lawyers, management smiled and invited them to do so.

The union portion of the corporation are all still employed and earning a living.

Unfortunately the days of employer & employee being long term & loyal are long gone, now it's just about the bottom line.

.... and that my friend is why unions are a good thing, unless your employer is something like Gorman's, that is.

I have absolutely no issues with private sector unions, public section different story.

unfortunately when the news is just entertainment T&A sells. so the cute little nymphs in the dresses crossing their shaved smooth legs won out over a guy who is middle aged and getting a pretty good tire. viva la girlpower!!

Steve Darling Gone-What is going on with Corus/Global?

News that Steve Darling was let go on Friday was a shocker. What is going on with Global??
They seem to be keeping their standards low, and I, for one, am tired of it. They say they are doing away with the Anchor Chair. Well, I think they are doing themselves no favors, and I guess I will be watching other news channels. Grace Ke, who seems to be such a non-personality, should be the one to have left. I know she is not a news anchor, but she just seems to have no personality and never says "Back to you." She just stops talking and very seldom smiles.
I wonder how long before we won't see our own Rick Webber. I notice they are not saying his name now for the news at 5.
They got rid of Mike McCardell and he went to CTV. Maybe that is where Steve will end up.
Global seems to be cutting their own hearts out and I know I, for one, am very frustrated with them.

I suspect it may all boil down to the money. 19 years with Global he would probably make more that most of the others.
Trim the fat so to speak. Which could be another reason.

Agreed, I notice that so little is on Globaltv which passes for news it's actually "news". Info-tainment at best, at worst it's "let's just go to Netflix and see what's new."

I can barely get through Global's half hour of supposed news.

I don't understand why they would let him go and keep a woman who has an accent that is very hard for some people to understand!

I think I'll be going to a different channel for the News from now on.

Spend a morning listening to Keri Adams on CTV and you'll be watching Good Morning America, that's what my wife has resorted to.

Imagine, we have two "locally" produced morning news shows and people opt for GMA. Who is managing these stations ?
