Men in Hats
The other day, my wife and I went out for dinner with our neighbours. It’s a fairly rare occurrence as we’re retired and don’t have the shekels to do it too often, so when we do, it’s nice to treat it as a special occasion and dress up a bit. We went to one of our favorite restaurants – not swanky but fairly quiet and well run. Seated at the tables near us were mainly couples. The women on the whole were very nicely dressed, but the men! Many of them were wearing hats while they ate. Baseball caps on frontwise or backwards, toques, hoodies up – looking like something the cat dragged in. It struck me that they didn’t show much respect for their well-dressed companions. Come on, guys! Do you really find it necessary to look like a scruff while dining? Is it macho? How about a little class? Doff it, for pity’s sake.

I agree but then when my boys lived at home they took off their hats when at the table or didn't get fed.
Should be the same rule at restaurants.

This is what passes as normal now. Remember, girls dress to out-peacock other girls.

Re: Men in Hats
Try getting fed at any of my Families or Relatives homes while wearing a hat.
If you darken the doorway, the hat comes off.
If it is outdoors, the hat comes off before the butt hits the chair/bench.
I agree with the OP. I know times have changed.
Here is the BUT,
It still disgusts me about the total lack of respect for the establishment, the
persons present company, and surrounding patrons.
C'mon guys, what is so hard about it.
Show some respect.

Or maybe girls dress a certain way because they like it??!? Not to impress dudes, or out-peacock other girls?!

How good these ladies must feel when they look across the table at their "date" and
he's has his hat on, hood up and sunglasses on, profiling what a tough guy he is.
Every third word a cuss.
What a gentleman!!!

Take hats off, including baseball caps …
In someone’s home
At mealtimes, at the table
While being introduced, indoors or out (unless it’s frigid!)
In a house of worship, unless a hat or head covering is required
Indoors at work, especially in an office (unless required for the job)
In public buildings such as a school, library, courthouse, or town hall
In restaurants and coffee shops
At a movie or any indoor performance
When the national anthem is played
When the flag of your country passes by, as in a parade
Women
Fashion hats (not baseball-style caps) can be left on…
In someone’s home
At luncheons, weddings, garden parties
At religious services
At a movie or any indoor performance
When the national anthem is played
When the flag of your country passes by, as in a parade
Take your fashion hat off…
Anytime it blocks someone’s view, such as at a wedding or in a theater
Indoors at work
Remove baseball-style (unisex) caps…

Maybe it is just a generation thing??
Personally, I could care less if my BF wears a hat while we are out, well depending on where we are going. If we are going to the Keg for a special date/evening I would expect him to "dress up" which wouldn't include a hat. But if we are just going to the local pub for a drink and dinner, I don't care.
But I do agree, if you want respect you have to show respect. I guess I (and others) just don't "see" respect by outward appearances and more by how others treat others.
