I scored a half-eaten muffin outside of Tim Hortons today,

#winning!!!

PS: My original comment was targeted at people who actually dupster dive for bottles, food, and clothes. If you have to do this - you definitely made some wrong choices in life. As far as saving items from landfill and reusing them in a clever way - that's a different topic. Currently I'm collecting coins for my kitchen island top that I hope to make. Most of them come from me walking around and picking up loose change when I see it and buffing it up.

Kinda like this:

My personal experience living and co managing an apartment block is :
1- Most of the divers we deal with are high on something and leave a hell of a mess.
2- Most of the neater , nicer binners are there for bottles and such so most of the tenants leave those on the side of the bin so as to try iliminating the noise some binners make while digging.
3- Again most of our tenants leave furniture and other recyclables out of the bin in hopes that someone might find a use for the items.
For most part though its just drug addicts and others that have no respect to leave the area clean ...Yes have respect

Late last year came home from Safeway.
Had a load of groceries and was walking to my buildings door.
Passed a girl pushing a baby carriage full of clothes etc.
She said went shopping for food, I said yes.
As she walked bye I heard her say I wish.
I went upstairs and loaded the fridge up.
Went onto my balcony and saw she was in the dumpster at my building.
I went back out and pulled the change about $5 from my pocket and said can I help you out?
She said yes and told me she can`t get out of the dumpster.
She was 7-8 months pregnant and could`nt get out.
I crawled into the bin and pushed her over the rim.
Gave her another $20 I had in my wallet and she said she could now eat for a few days.
Went home with tears in my eyes.
Never saw her again and I think about her and her baby alot.
