abc2.... def3..... ghi4.... jhl5.... mno6.... pqrs7.... tuv8.... wxyz9 etc... etc

by time I get message typed I could have been able to either talk to whomever or leave a voice mail.
Screw text messaging

Well, there's your problem. Upgrade your phone ;)

But seriously though, if I didn't answer the call it's likely I won't check the voice mail either. Takes too much time when a simple text will suffice to get a message across, like the other party I'd gonna be 5 minutes late.

It's at the point not just for me but for many, phone calls are for important things and checking in with friends etc is virtually text only.
And if the callers number isnt shown thats a guaranteed non answer.

^^^Why the hell would I want to give cellphone provider's anymore money then they already take. Phone work perfectly well, anyone who wants texts from me can just suck it up and take the call or voicemail.
if they don't respond to damn bad.

Since a very large portion of the drivers are addicted to texting while behind the wheel, those who do this are just accident waiting happen.
Then you have as :cuss: holes not willing to purchase a bluetooth if they going to be talking on there cellphones.

Both groups are complete fu :cuss: morons, if caught should face much bigger fines & points then they have now. Only way to teach morons is via their bank accounts.

By the way my comments are aim at 2 groups above, so if you are one of these.... then yes I'm to biting your head off.

Added: simple solution pull completely of the road come to a stop & text & talk all you want to.

I've never even used that function Urbane! Can someone tell me if it is easy to set up, or do I just talk at my phone?

GordonH - I have a pay-as-you-go plan. Between how little I use my phone and the few texts I send (I have a plan where I pay $5 for 250 texts a month) I spend probably about $15 a month for it. Not too shabby, eh? I did go over on the texts one month - that was when husband needed to be driven to the coast for emergency eye surgery. He texted family and friends with updates while I drove. We coordinated hotel rooms and connecting with the specialists through a combination of both. Glad we had the option.

I don't use my phone in the car (except when I listen to my playlist). If I get a call it can go to voicemail. I'll check it when I reach my destination. Texts can wait. If I am expecting something, I'll pull over. I barely have enough coordination to text, I can't do it behind the wheel!
I haven't failed until I quit.

I'm on a similar pay-as-you-go plan and it's surprisingly reasonable! $15 a month for me as well and that includes 250 texts and plenty of phone time. We do have the bluetooth in the car to talk on the phone and it's great. Safe and excellent quality. No texting in the car though!

Texting with two thumbs is an art and takes practice. I find texting convenient, I can do it in between things I'm working on. I'm at the point now where I can pretty much text without even looking at the keyboard as I've memorized where each letter is.
