My vote goes to the maker of the pond.

Nature made pond = Otter
Man made pond = Koi

Team Otter. Cute, fuzzy, intelligent.

Versus

a cold-blooded fish.

Go, Otter!

I'm rethinking my choice of team otter as the koi are extremely old and valuable. Madonna is reportedly to have been 50 years old.

The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden... is the first Chinese or "scholars" garden built outside of China

Wikipedia
Not all environments are good for otters and in this case it's a lose/lose. I'll be happy to hear it's been relocated to a more suitable place. Love watching them in their natural habitat.

I'm not on Team Otter after reading up on koi. The otter will live on but koi have the ability to reach ages over 100 so it seems a shame to lose older fish because of a predator that doesn't belong there.

Koi prolly didn't belong either. Wonder how the Japanese Garden here keeps theirs safe from Heron.
Guy told me they go to the bottom and semi freeze thru the winter
Just catfish really

Koi was deliberately put there - same as the gardens - so of course they belong there. Think I read a heron also has been a problem since the otter moved in. Ripple effect. And no, koi aren't catfish - more carp-like.
