You think god is watching you?

Is there a god? What is the meaning of life?

You think god is watching you?

Post by I Think »

So there are billions of people on this planet, and logic tells us that there are billions of planets, which probably support life, possibly intelligent life. If you think that a god ( and there is no evidence to support the existence of such a creature) cares what you do or think, you must have a monstrous ego. Why would such a creature give a moments thought to such an insignificant part of the cosmos as you or I?

This implies that "God" has eyes. So no I don't think "God"is watching anything.

But but butt, god was made in the image of man, so he/she/it must have eyes.

It would also imply that god is real.
I also find it rather ( very ) egotistical that people can actually think that this omnipotent god of theirs answers their trivial prayers, guides them through their mundane emotional issues, grants them peace and fulfillment with their lovely little families ( Oh...thank you god for everything, we are blessed )...and yet - he/it/whatever chooses to turn a blind eye to the millions of starving children who are suffering and dying in agony and the thousands of women and children who are abused and raped every day.
But hey...at least you got that raise so you could afford to send little Johnny to private school...praise god.

I'm more than proud to choose NOT to worship such a deity.

I suppose if the idea of "God watching all of us" brings to mind a person trying to watch several billion TV channels at once, then yes, it's pretty hard to believe. It would take someone with an attention and a consciousness far greater than our own to do so. Why, they'd have to be a God or something.

Now add in several billion planets, some of which may have billions of creatures, then add in all the other animals and plants, then every grain of sand on this and every planet, plus every molecule in the universe.
If you think you are important enough to be watched, you have a problem with your ego.

God doesn't need eyes, he can just use the camera on your smart phone.

Btw, god hates selfies.

But seriously, having a personal relationship with god, which is the snake oil they're selling, requires him to watch everyone. So it's not necessarily ego, it's more like gullibility.

There’s a million, billion, trillion stars but I’m down here low
Fussin’ over scars on my soul, on my soul, on my soul, on my soul
On my soul, I am so infinitesimal, oh

They say it started with a big bang
But they say it came out of a small thing
Lately I’m feeling like a big bang
Cause I’ve been making something out of nothing…Like my soul

I have to agree with Jaybyrd. If you define God(s) as a being with a greater consciousness than our own, then the collected thoughts of the community is what this phrase is talking about. It means that we are all watching over each other. Like a detective you can peer into someone's life and see all their vices, but also thus there is the social responsibility that we have to help and protect each other to make a great civilization.
