Is religion going the way of the dinosaur?

Post by Farmmaa »

Perhaps there is hope for this world after all, as recent studies show that Millenials are leaving religion in numbers never seen before.
Seven in ten Millennials born between 1990 and 1996 with no religious affiliation say spirituality is not at all important in their lives.
In fact, the new generation is the least religious in the past six generations here in North America.

More broadly, a survey conducted earlier this year by Pew Research found that a record 46 million Americans are classified as “nones.” That means that 23 percent of Americans are nonreligious, a momentous nine percent leap from the 14 percent of nonreligious Americans just eight years ago in 2007. To give perspective, that number is equal to the black, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American populations combined.

This isn’t the only important metric, though. In 2007, Pew conducted a nationwide survey concluding that roughly 60 percent of Americans who attend religiously-oriented services “seldom or never” still described themselves as belonging to some particular religious group. Just five years later (in 2012), only half of those surveyed claimed that they belonged to a religious group of some kind, which equates to a 10 point net drop in just five years. The study also concluded that only half of Americans regularly attend religious services of any kind. The share of Americans who say they are “absolutely certain” God exists has dropped sharply from 71 percent in 2007 to 63 percent in 2014.

Hollywood since the 1960's has done a good number on Christianity. (along with Churches themselves)

Having said that, young people and older people in the Western nations are becoming spiritual. Taking up the New Age religion.
(Yoga is one of the entrance into the New Age)

Most don't know that they are awaiting their messiah named Maitreya. Who could be here now.......

You should have said is Christianity going way of the dinosaur...

Also Islam is growing in the Eastern world at an alarming rate.....

I don't think religion is going anywhere any time soon. Religion might transform from a very institutionalized phenomena to something else, but the basic need of humans for religion is not going anywhere.

For example, the Millenials in questions might not follow traditional religions with Jesus and Mohamed, but their spiritual needs produce other religion-type forms of spiritualities that resemble traditional religions almost word for word.

A lot of young people these days talk about staying positive and asking the Universe for help in their life. In this case Jesus simply changed the name to "Universe" to which you're supposed to "open up" and keep your faith in. Meditation is all the rage also - but very few people realize that daily praying was the basic form of meditation back in the day.

So, traditional Christianity might be fading, but new forms of religions are taking off. It's just evolution of spirituality.

I really doubt too many millenials are being influenced by movies or stars from the 1960's...in fact, I've never actually heard anyone say that Hollywood is the reason they left religion.
Yes, the rich and famous are probably more outspoken about their atheism today, just as the rest of the population is.

Spirituality and organized religion are separate entities. Most people who are in to spirituality will say that it means to them, being more in tune with nature, the earth and their own being. It is not about worshipping a higher being.
People usually engage in activities such as yoga for reasons completely separate from religion - stress management, relaxation, mobility, health.

As stated, the articles and studies are about all religions...and about North America in particular.
Young people are leaving all organized religion...and yes, in the west, the majority of those would be Christian religions.

Since the 1960's Hollywood has been slowly indoctrinating the western world with anti-Christian themes. Very, very slowly which is now has become acceptable. Stories which were taboo only 50 years ago are now mainstream....

Yes, the rich and famous are probably more outspoken about their atheism today, just as the rest of the population is.

This is pushed onto the masses by the media as they have much influence on them.

This is called Gaia worship! Worship of mother earth......

It is not about worshipping a higher being.

This is exactly how Eastern religions are gaining popularity!

They are leave Christianity in mass because of the organized attack on it by those who are going to bring about a new world religion lead by the Maitreya....This was planned many years ago.

Just in case you missed it....

This is what the powers at be have in store for the world...with Maitreya at it's head.

The environmental movement is supported by national and international political powers, but the movement is more than just political. In the past century, New Age worship of the planet has become popular, providing another reason to accept the sustainability paradigm. Here are several of the ways Earth worship is being propagated:
The Gaia Hypothesis

Humanism

UNCED and The Earth Charter

It's clear that sustainability and environmentalism are not only about caring for the earth, but about political control and New Age spirituality.
David Livingstone sums it up this way:
The environmental movement, while helping to advance the cause of the oil industry, is an extension of the Aquarian conspiracy, incepted by Alice Bailey, designed ultimately to foster the acceptance a one-world-religion, based on the occult, or the New Age, as it is called.x

OK, so now that you've turned this into a ridiculous conspiracy theory...( there is a forum for that )

You don't actually spend much time with the millennial generation, do you ?
I don't know of a single person from the so called 'generation Y', who worships Mother Earth, believes in New Age religion or the occult. In fact, the majority of those who leave the religion they were raised in, turn to atheism.

These people join yoga classes for exercise and relaxation...and probably because they like the way their butts look in yoga pants.

They reject the whole premise of religion...not just Christianity....but religion. the worship of any sort of deity - including mother Earth. They have no religious or spiritual affiliation.

One does not need to belong to any group or spiritual belief to be concerned about conservation, pollution and the state of our planet - one simply needs to care about our world.

Bolivia's president Morales, having achieved the establishment of pantheism as his country's official religion, has taken his religious agenda to the UN, which has acceded to his wishes by establishing April 22 as Mother Earth Day, thus establishing the worship of the goddess Pachamama (known as Gaia in other circles).

Normally, one would react to a UN resolution giving goddess Mother Earth the same rights as humans with a yawn. But Morales, his Green supporters, fellow globalists, believers in liberation theology and the Marxist dialectic take the resolution quite seriously, as the UN is seen as an international vehicle for accomplishing goals long in the making.

Learn something new everyday! Mother Earth has a face to it....

goddess Pachamama (known as Gaia in other circles) Wow! I never knew that!

Pachamama – Goddess of the Elements
Pachamama is an ancient Inca fertility goddess, referred to in other cultures as Gaia and Mother Earth. She is still honored in ceremonies, throughout the Andes Mountains, to thank her for what the land provides.

Pachamama in HistoryPachamama (translating to "World Mother" or "Mother Earth") was honored by the indigenous people of the Andes Mountains, predominately by the Inca in Peru and parts of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. She is the mother of Inti, the Sun god (although some sources say this was her husband), and Killa, the Moon goddess. Pachamama was the Inca's generous fertility goddess who presided over planting and harvesting, providing the earth's inhabitants everything needed to sustain life. #Pachamama #MotherEarth #DivineFeminine
