Yeah. Take the coquihalla to hope...

Or if you have a decent truck, you could take chute lake.

I'm not sure what it's called, but don't forget the route from Kelowna to Highway 33 to Rock Creek through to Osoyoos. I would think that would even be shorter than Hope/Princeton????

If you have a good truck, there is also the backroad from Penticton to Summerland, but I'd be a little scared to take that at night........

I just heard on the scanner that someone (Arthon?) is turning people around at the Connector overpass, before going down drought hill.

I've driven both. I'd recommend Princeton, even if it is a bit longer.

I guess I would look smart if I told you about the road between Princeton and the Connector. It is a good road and ends up where the connector used to go to two lanes. Why on earth would you go to hope?

I've peed on that road before. Never knew it went through to Princeton. That might be a bit quicker.

It would be hours shorter.

You don't need a good truck for the Chute Lake trip.
I drive my car on that backroad, just have to drive slow where the road is rough.
It is a lot closer, and will take about 70 mins, if you really want to.

What you might need is good headlights if your driving after 7 p.m.

Or 45 minutes if anyone other than Struts is driving.

If you are going that way take the Aspen Grove route on the Connector to Princeton and double back through Keremeos to Penticton, It is about 3 1/2 hours and the road is decent just watch for deer between Aspen and Princeton, they are fairly thick along the roadside in the groves at dawn and dusk, more so than the other routes. We saw lots a few weeks ago and had a couple of close calls. The Naramata route is quite washboardy if you take that route and a lot of hunters early mornings and late day. Good luck Everyone. Pray they get the highway open safely soon so everyone that has to go south or north can get there safely. Take Care.

Hello to all

There has been no major slide as yet. There were several smaller slips Wednesday and Thursday. A fracture line in the soils well up on the mountain was noted by Geotechnical engineers in discussion on Thursday morning ... it was about 4 inches wide at that time. At about 6 pm Friday, a large fracture line extending from lower areas to well up the mountain was observed to be expanding with rock and debris making its way down. None of this reached the highway, but upon closer inspection, it was estimated that a massive amount of material was moving.

As a result, and into darkness, the road was closed by Arthon Contractors. The fracture extends well beyond the project limits, outside of Arthon's work area. Geotechnical Engineers will be reviewing the situation at day break ... see http://www.arthon.com for updates and photos when we have those in hand. I would say that this was not caused by the blasting, but rather exposed by the removal of blasted rock. It is likely that the large amount of rock removed from the base reduced the ballast and the natural fractures had less holding the mass. We'll know more in the hours to come.
