I don't think Rockets print ads are aimed at their own players. And if you really think some kid is going to pick up a newspaper (!) and be influenced by that ad, well...
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes

It's a dumb ad for sure. Whoever wrote the ad is trying to be funny but the whole bit about failing the test because you were out late at the game and not telling your parents and it all being worth it . . . not a good ad for the Kelowna Rockets. It is supposed to be funny (I think) but it falls flat and is definitely a negative message from the Rockets.

Who said the ad was aimed at their own players?
That would be a waste of advertising dollars, wouldn't it?

Advertising, for better or worse, should generate a reaction. That has been accomplished here.

The ad certainly got noticed. In that, it accomplished its job. For me the ad produced a chuckle. The excuse that I could not do my homework or study for the exam because I went to the Rockets game, is much better than the excuse that the dog ate it. Now I would like to think Rocket management will produce some ads that demonstrate the benefits the players receive from playing in the WHL. This league has some of the best college and university support programs of any junior hockey league in the country.
